The little pen knife that could

This 1976 Case 6279 Senator is the flattest carrying of all my Case penknives. Don’t let the oval around the CASE name on the shield fool you, it is Delrin, but some of their Delrin has such nice Case jigging that they are hard to distinguish from jigged bone (have to do the tooth-tap test to determine). OH

The Case 63 pattern “Eisenhower” is a perfectly sized penknife with a nice blade to frame ratio - the story is that President Eisenhower liked to gift this pattern and thus lent his name to the knife. I can see why the good general chose this knife. A couple from the late 1990’s, one jigged bone the other stag. I like this small version of the block shield on a small knife. OH

I’ve accumulated several two and three blade Case penknives over the years based on the 33 frame - that frame seems to be a prolific seller for Case. I don’t really care for them - just too small for my taste - I don’t seem to feel that I have such a small knife under control when I use it. OH

Nice pearl on your Case Penknife Charlie. I have understood it that a Penknife is any slipjoint pocketknife with a closed OAL under 3”. So yours is a Stockman pattern Penknife - don’t know that there is a definitive answer, however I think that definition is pretty usable and easy to communicate. OH

Agreed  Penknives have been shown in old catalogues with three blades (Sheffield) so it's a pretty 'open' term ;) As for size, I'd be more liberal, say 3 3/8" maybe? I have a CASE Redbone single-spring that's Stockman 47 size....and heard it called Large Penknife ...but that's a bit far maybe :D I do like a blade each end single-spring knife in any size mind so I'm trying to tell myself that Charlie's latest and possibly greatest offering is not a City Stockman but a Stock Pen 😍

Many thanks to Old Hunter Old Hunter and waynorth waynorth for their recent and wonderful additions to this thread  Bruce & Charlie I send you season's greetings, may your Christmas & New Year be peaceful and rewarding for you and those close to you.

Thanks, Will

I think you are on good ground calling that 47 frame knife a pen if you like, Case officially calls it that. Thank you for the season’s greetings and I return them to you. Regards, Bruce

Sublime is the word that comes to mine looking at your latest penknife - redbone, stainless steel, nice blades - just a great looking knife. OH
Thanks Bruce!!

A fair call, Will - a Stock Pen is an apt name, but I posit that "City Stock" is the more charismatic name, implying a more useful knife existence!! Ha Ha!!! 😁
Peace and Joy to you as well!!🎶:)
