The Lone Ranger and "Foolish?"

It's interesting that you mentioned John Wayne's role in
"The Conqueror". It doesn't seem to be too well known,
but the cancer that he died from probably did NOT result from
cigarette smoking. Rather, it was probably due to
radioactive fallout that he was exposed to while filming
"The Conqueror" in Utah. That film was not only possibly
the worst miscasting in history, but also the most fatal to a
film crew in history

John

i personally thought it was his greatest comedy role., his accent was hilarious in that context. miscasting was too kind a word. he took a bad movie and made it worse. but he was the 'duke'

My high school drama coach detested John Wayne

John Wayne is no actor. Every part he plays is the same character - John Wayne.

As to Tonto - I was told by a latina clerk ("You can call me essa, but not essa.") that "Tonto means someone that does something stupid but estupido is someone who really is stupid.

I live near Temecula (aka Yuppieville) and as best I can tell it means "That's my @55-h__e".

There are some interesting linguistic connections to the term "Yankee".
Dutch upper-class immigrents referred to lower class (i.e. newer) immigrents as "Jan Keeyes" (the J sounds like Y) which is roughly the equivalent to "Joe Blow" i.e. someone who is a "nobody" and benith notice.
洋鬼子 - Yang gui zi - Foreign devil (ghost) in Mandrin also sounds simular.

you have, of course, left off the prefix half the word which is normally pronounced d@mnyankee in my neck of the woods....preferably with This playin' in the background ( or mebbe This for a better known song)

We are a band of brothers and native to the soil
Fighting for the property we gained by honest toil
And when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and far
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star!

Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

As long as the Union was faithful to her trust
Like friends and brethren, kind were we, and just
But now, when Northern treachery attempts our rights to mar
We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

First gallant South Carolina nobly made the stand
Then came Alabama and took her by the hand
Next, quickly Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida
All raised on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Ye men of valor gather round the banner of the right
Texas and fair Louisiana join us in the fight
Davis, our loved President, and Stephens statesmen are
Now rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

And here's to brave Virginia the Old Dominion state
With the young Confederacy at length has linked her fate
Impelled by her example now other states prepare
To hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears the single star.

Then here's to our Confederacy strong we are and brave
Like patriots of old we'll fight our heritage to save
And rather than submit to shame to die we would prefer
So cheer for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears the single star.

Then cheer boys cheer raise the joyous shout
For Kansas and North Carolina now have both gone out
And let another rousing cheer for Tennessee be given
The single star on the Bonnie Blue Flag has grown to be eleven.

And to Missouri we extend both heart and hand
And welcome her a sister of our Confederate band
Tho surrounded by oppression no one dare deter
Her adding to our Bonnie Blue Flag her bright and twelfth star!

Poor Tonto always got beat up when he was sent into town by the Lone Ranger. Why did Tonto keep going into town? He had to know what was going to happen to him.
