Do any of you have experience on the Long Trail from the MA/VT border to the US/CA border? I'm thinking of doing it this summer and want to hear your thoughts.

Great series of trail, well mainted, lot less crowded then the White mountains. worth doing for sure. Anything specific you want to know?

Sounds good so far :)

I'm interested in anything you all feel is worth noting. How long does it take? What's the terrain like? Any special spots I should check out along the way? Any cool history or stories to know about?

Is 20 miles/day reasonable on this trail? Fortunately, I'm still young and in good shape - plenty of running and cycling - same with those who might join me.

What is the US/CA border? Isn't CA in the US? Or did you mean AZ?

I didn't know there was a trail from one end of the country to the next, that sounds like an awesome trip.

Sorry,

I mean that the trail goes across Vermont North to South from Canada to Massachusetts, not across the country. CA was my abbreviation for Canada. Across the country would be an amazing trip but it would take more time than I have to give.

Across the country is the Discovery Trail.

Hmmm... Well 20 miles a day would be a bit steep for me, but I am older then you are. The ground you'll have to cover is pretty rugged, but not as sever as say the Presidentals in the Whites. Some steeper grades. Gets cool even in the summer time but nothing life threathening. I havent done it end to end, nor have I hiked the Green's in years, best to check with the Green Mountain Club.

Oh, I see, well thanks for the link, I didn't know there was a cross country trail. If only I weren't married...

Still waiting to hear back from a friend, but this trip looks like a go for the summer:thumbup:
