Over the holidays I visited my in-laws in Mississippi. They own about a 100 acres and I am the only one that LOVES the woods. I romped around all day and thanks to global warming I got to do it without a jacket.
It was hovering around 68-70 degrees and I made some fires and walked in the woods following animal tracks.
I carried a machete at times, a really cheap Garza, never heard of it with a broken handle. I had my CS master hunter but it mostly got in the way. All I mostly carried was my leatherman supertool and a SAK trailmaster. The LM cost about $40, 13 years ago and the SAK was about $20.
I am really coming to the conclusion that there is no need for small fixed blades at all. I might just carry a LM and a SAK. I still think it is important to have some type of large knife over 7" like a machete or what have you.
For awhile I got into or followed the trend of small bushcraft knives but I think I am going back to the large knife with SAK combo.
