The making of a balisong addict...

I have one small butterfly knife that a Filipino friend gave me, it's probably not worth much, but I definately don't know how to use it!! Maybe I'll get one with a smoother action and see how that works, mine's pretty primitive and stiff.

Frost had a number of different models.I had one with flat solid stainless handles. It was very nice.I liked its flatness and carried it for a few years and aside from getting banged up(appearance only) it held up great.

CHIRO!!

So THAT'S why you haven't contacted me! You've cut off ALL your fingers ^_^. That jag is relatively inexpensive but please take care of my knife ^_^;;

sorry for putting you through too much pain.

We shall be waiting for the knife sheath =p.

Great tag line... especially for a balisong artist.

Anyone that's interested in left-handed balisongs can go over to Clay's board and view that thread. It's all archived, you know.

Cut some strips out of an aluminum soda can and use them to cover the holes in the handles.

Besides the bruised knuckles (no cuts yet -- I probably jinxed myself!), these things are fun.

Serious question, how much side to side play should these things have? My jaquar have almost a handle width of "play" on the butt end. Starting to worry about flying handle and/or blade!

There is some serious torguing and banging with the flips and twirls (at least in my own inept attempts). How much can even the best balisong take?

Ideally, as your technique improves, the handles and blade hit your hand and each other less. Once you are an expert, the wear should only be on the pins during swinging, and that shouldn't be very much.

Practice making as little noise as possible as you twirl.

Chiro75,

I need a sheath. I've been wondering how to do it. I've never been a big fan of Kydex, but maybe it's the answer here.

This sheath is for.... you guessed it, a balisong. In fact a Benchmade 45. In fact, I'll need two, one for the right side and one for the left.

Horizontal carry, of course. Concealment is not an issue. Retention is a very minor issue. It must be able to accept and minimally retain the closed balisong either tang or punyo first. Draw must be easy and smooth and resheath must be equally easy and smooth. Again, retention is a minor issue.

These sheaths will be used while giving demonstrations of balisong techniques and knive-fighting techniques. So, what's important is that it work smoothly and reliably, and smoothly and reliably as one of my trusted BM45s does.

What do you think? Can you do it?

It wouldn't be a challenge if they weren't tappered, now would it?

This weekend, I shall photograph one on a piece of graph paper and then post that on my site for you to see quite well what the shape is.

Excellent tip on the site. Ha! my balisong is more out of line than that in your sketches!!! Glad I asked and got the answer.

The pleasure is all mine SING, glad I could help.

By the way I just added 26 new techniques to the site, on top of the 18 on the Double Balisong page I just added........ just in case anyone is interested.

This is frustrating. After reading all the messages in this thread, I've become a Balisong addict--and I don't even OWN a Balisong.
