Hello everyone! I figured I'd post this after a week of posting on facebook. This all started as an idea for a custom fighting knife for a friend of mine or whoever would want it really. From a meager piece of 5160. Using just a angle grinder bench grider sanders and files this is what i have to show you all so far. This is a WIP

Ah yes If they could do that, that would be great. Sorry second posting on this website still a newbie. But thanks guys!

Progress! got my new g10 in today and bought a dremel yesterday getting damn close to being able to heat treat does anyone know of a heat treating company in the northeast preferably in my home state of taxachusetts? Any way to get a 3x normalize 3x harden and 3x temper this way? or am i better off doing it myself as i want to get a differential heat treat with a softer tang and spine.

Do you guys think I could put an entire secondary bevel on with a worksharp? or am i better off starting it by hand with a typical v bevel then worksharpening it?

I use Peters for my heat treat, but Tru Grit is cheaper for single blades. Don't sharpen until you've got it heat treated (especially cause it will come back with scale). Peters is in PA.

Handles aren't attached. I was getting a feel for how the end product would be. Any how , roadblock i need 2 bolts for the handle scales the ones i bought were too tiny. I want something that doesn't require grinding and are heavy duty looking for 2 bolts and a 3rd hole for a tube for the lanyard. Please help! gotta get all the hardware holes in before heat treat. and thanks guys! Its been a pain in the @ss to make by hand but if I sell it itll all be worth it. Using it as seed money to buy a belt grinder and start my shop.

You may have some difficulties if you sell that. Part of the design is copyrighted. I've heard of chain ring bolts being used before. I'm guessing you're not wanting to use corby bolts due to the necessity of grinding those down?

Among certain crowds, the kind that would like your knife, I believe, chain ring bolts get used quite a bit.

I know that busse has the hole design but for what I've seen it doesn't do anything. I added it for extra security in the sheath with a push-ring bolt for extra retention. If it becomes an issue ill try to resolve it. I thought the extra retention would help to make it jump safe.

Interesting,
How does one have a design on a HOLE? Seen lots of knives with holes in the integral guard area way before busse. In lawyer speak I think its called prior domain/provenance. Heres an Idea, line said hole with titanium tube used in the same location on said integral guard and now YOU have a new design feature. the name for the hole may be trademark-able. just change the marketable designsubstance of its application and wallaaa,, its yours...

Now thats an idea! Hah. Right. Lets trade mark a hole in the guard. We wont use it for anything. Maybe a paracord guard. My idea is different though. Focused on a retainer pin. Just haven't picked one yet. Ordered stainless tubing for the lanyard hole along with 2 sets of quarter inch chainring bolts. Its all starting to come together. I shot that heat treating place an email but they have yet to even reply to me after 3-4 days. Anyhow. Ill keep moving forward. Thanks for the kind words guys. Keeps me motivated!- kale
