mrbear`s Kephart. mrbear had asked me if I would do a "Making Of" thread on his Kephart, so here we go!

The raw components:
1/8" x 1/14" O1 steel
Maple Burl handle slabs
1/4" brass pin stock
Gray and black liner materials

To be continued over the next several days......

This is especially great for those who are relatively new to all of this. I'm really going to enjoy it.

Thanks,
Jed

I ordered a baby Kephart matching for my Son's birthday in October (September order) (his first knife). Hoping John has enough left from the maple burl batch so they match so his first knife matches Dad's. :)

Maybe we could get Noah to add to the thread when he's working on the sheath. Make it a complete "Making of....." thread for people to see you guys at work and what everything involves.

This is really interesting to see the "birth" of a great knife and all the steps John goes through in the process. If Noah could add his shots of the sheath being made, that would really add to this.

Awesome suggestion mrbear and love the photos Stomper! Keep 'em coming!

Hi Stomper -

These are always my favorite kind of thread to watch - when I first joined here there were a couple like this being posted.

Thanks for taking time to do this for us.

I am buttering my popcorn, and have a couple of cold barley-pop's ready for the continuation of the "Stomper creates a Keppie" thread!

best regards -

Cool thread idea. It's cool to see the knife in pieces and in all of the phases in between.

For those of us that have been lucky enough to have visited the shop, it's really cool to watch this. It's easy for me to imagine exactly what and where everything is happening.

John, or anyone else that can answer, what are all the additional little holes in the knife blank. I can envision the three larger holes for the pins etc, but what about the smaller ones? Thanks
Dan

The two are for the pins and the third is a hollow lanyard hole.
I think the smaller ones help the epoxy grip the two pieces together.

I like it! It's cool to see the whole process. Can't wait to see the handle portion.
