The Man, The Myth, The Legend

Dudley, it was a treat to meet you in Atlanta this year. I really admire your interest in knives.

I was also very jealous when I heard where you were headed after the show. What a great experience to meet up with Jimmy and get to see his lair.

I am a big fan of Jimmy's work, and happy to see this posted. What a way to finish off a great weekend of friends and steel.

That's awesome Dudley

Call me when you get off the road

I'm heading back to Atlanta to fly home today

What great way to spend some time! You know he's one of my all time favorites.

Good to see Jimmy in a photo and being at Blade! And all this time I thought he was perfecting his clone.:D

Kelley and I miss ya Jimmy!

What a lucky guy you are, Dudley !

As promised Jimmy sent me one of his blades a while back to play with and it was an extremely sharp
slicer and chopper that exhibited great edge retention.
It was an extremely mean machine, I so envy your collection, Win.

Love Jimmy's stuff !

Saw the picture framed in the background and hope you (or Jimmy) don't mind me sticking up his self portrait
painting he sent me.
I think he's quite an accomplished painter..
and hear he tickles the ivories, too.

Totally Assume Dudley.
I really enjoyed finally getting to know you a little.
STeven, wrote an article a few years ago in one of David Darom book's (World of Art Knives) on "Knife People".
You're a fine example of "Knife People", my friend.

Mr. D,

Glad you made it home safe and sound from the wilds of Atlanta. Long drive and plenty of idiots on the road you have to stay out of the way of.

Your visit was thoroughly enjoyed by the whole crew here at Oleyandia... Maggie, Dorothy, Chris and cats and the old crazy guy. My only complaint was that it was not long enough by half. Next time plan on staying a couple of days (or longer) so we can get out in the shop and fire up the forges.

Maggie and Dorothy have finished up forging the field cleavers they were working on and have those about ready for heat treat, so I suppose the lessons I'm trying to give are sticking. As long as they stop working long enough to fan me when I overheat is the main thing... or bring me iced drinks... or tell me how "manly" I am. You know, the usual stuff to puff up my already swollen-to-the-bursting-point ego.

Chris told me what a help you were to him at the Blade Show. I think he was more than a bit lost there since it was his first show and I wanted to send along some thanks from the both of us. What it boils down to is that you're just a very nice guy :>)

Looking forward to the next visit. Come early, stay late.

Your friend,

Jimmy

I think this is a good place for me to thank and praise Chris for his good nature and his work. I recently received a fighter from him that is a beauty. That and a tanto from several months back are two of the sharpest knives I own. Chris's communication is top notch. He calls to let you know how things are going, he emails when the knife is ready. Then follows up with a call afterwards. Great person to work with. He even mentioned that he noticed my parents retirement on Facebook.

Thank you,
Greg Abousleman

Hope I have the right person. Are u the guy that met jimmy recently yesterday ish. Can you please give jimmy a message. Please have him email me. He has changed his email address from highwayman aol. Trying to catch up w him. If you're uncomfortable doing this please email w your decision. Thx for helping. Jeanne. Email: jeanneelliott46@gmail.com
Thx again

Hello, Everyone,
I just got back from my first Blade show and then a week's vacation. I really enjoyed the Blade show and wanted to thank everyone that stopped by the table. I wanted to give special thanks to Dudley Dawkins for helping me throughout the show and especially on Friday. I also wanted to say thank you to Greg Abousleman for the kind words. It is always a pleasure talking to you Greg, glad you are enjoying the knives. Hopefully you will get some much needed time off to cut some stuff and abuse them. Well, now it's time to get back to the shop and get to work. Lots of new things from the shop coming soon now that me, Maggie and Dorothy are all in the shop. Thank you again everyone.

Chris Tidwell

What a nice collection of posts in this thread, as Kevin says "knife people" and also just generally nice people. Dudley, you are a sterling fellow and I envy you those spectacular Fikes.

Thanks for the photos and for posting this thread. Great to see.
