The MDP Guyot Bail

I totally missed this thread when it came out....

I will try to answer some of the questions in it, later today.

Man, where was I?

Marion

I think you were tending to your grandfather bro....a lot more imoportant than this thread

Be carefull though.... I had one of the aluminum crimps melt on me and drop the whole damn thing in the fire.

Yikes!

My bails are made from fishing leaders. I have no idea how anything is attached on them, only that the wires are very thin.

However, I rarely use mine by hanging it over a fire - rather, I set the bottle down in some coals, and just use the bail to retrieve the bottle once it's a-boilin'

I haven't boiled water in the guyot yet, I didn't have time today, but I think I got a cool piece of kit...wish that happened everytime I change my mind about something :D

.

Well, this was easy compared to the aggravation of the other task you were thinking of...

And, then I also get these really cool images, twofer!

It's a perfect addition for SS Guyot bottle owners

Marion generously gifted me one in the Pay It Forward thread.

Thanks again bro.

Thank you! And I am glad you like it.

Man that is cool. I can't find them at walmart.LOL.What size wire is that?

I just use 1/16th inch wire rope, I suppose I could make one even more 'ultra-light' but that will have to wait after all the other stuff I got on my plate.

I'm loving mine. It fits great and will even fit loosely over a Kleen Kanteen. They're a better design than most I've seen. Thanks again MDP!

Thank you!

Stainless steel bicycle brake cable works, but for real ultralight stuff, try some derailleur cable as its thinner.

I will have to give that a try.

I love my MDP bail. A real piece of KISS genius.

It worked out pretty good, didn't it?

I made one (similar, but different) for my guyot too, Mist.

Be carefull though.... I had one of the aluminum crimps melt on me and drop the whole damn thing in the fire. It was negligence on my part, but still... it's obviously not dummy proof... lol.

I switched out the aluminum bits with steel tubing and its good to go.

Rick

That is good to know.

"Don't cross the streams. Important Safety Tip. Thanks Egon."

At first sight I thought it's a snare wire.
Now this is a cool addition.

Thank you!

Yeah, that was important, but it has led to a good bit of pitchfork sharpening.

Thank you Mist!
