I know the mini Bics are old news to some of you but I hadn't be able to find them locally until today. While I'd prefer the standard size Bic for its ergonomics and additional fuel, it took up a fair amount of room in my Altoids PSK. So much so that I had to strap my little Gerber UL LST to the outside using a couple ranger bands. Repacking the kit today replacing the full-size Bic with the mini allowed me to place the knife inside the tin and reduce bulk a bit more.

I know some of you like to wrap 550 on the outside but I also wrap about 3' of duct tape on the outside lengthwise. Under the duct tape is about 10' of bright pink surveyor's tape. I top the whole thing off with a couple ranger bands.

Inside:

a $20 bill
couple Rite in Rain sheets
pencil stub
4 Katadyn water tabs
2 alcohol wipes
Reynolds oven bag
8' steel wire
button compass
coin cell flashlight (countycomm)
Gerber UL LST knife
mini Bic
small firesteel (goinggear)
single edge razor blade
couple sewing needles
couple safety pins
pealess whistle with lanyard
tactical paper clip
4 pieces TinderQuik
couple-three square feet hd foil

Under the 10' of paracord wrap on the outside is a small round mirror.

I feel a small kit like this would be reasonably suitable if it was all you had for a couple days. However, I also carry a mini-Grip all the time, a small SAK Classic, handkerchief, and chapstick. Almost all the time, I've got a 45 gallon yard bag in a 4x6" baggie too.

Haven't snapped a photo of the outside yet but you know what all this stuff looks like. The smart additions to my way of thinking are the wraps of surveyor's marking tape, the duct tape, and ranger bands (from mountain bike tubes).

So anyway, thanks to WSS for the hint about the mini Bic. It allowed me to make a much cleaner PSK.

Sounds like a good kit. You might want to put an Oring on the Bic to prevent the gas from leaking.

I also wrap some fishing line and hooks on my Bic and cover with some duct tape.

Considering how tightly packed it is putting a piece of tape ove the top of the lighter is probably a good idea.

As far as fishing gear, I've always thought that was fairly useless in a location like mine. I do keep a bit of gear in my larger packs but in a Altoids tin PSK, it's a waste of space IMO.
