The MiniManix is Converting Me...

I've considered myself a Benchmade man for several years. The only Spyderco models that I was familiar with were the older Delica and Endura type models. I also got a MiniPersian and was not impressed. Lately, though, I've been eyeing several Spyderco models.

I just got my hands on a MiniManix today, and I've already arranged another trade for a a full-sized Manix.:o

I think I'm converting to Spydercoism!

I can't wait to put my MiniManix to use. For something bigger that my cell phone, it hides well in my pocket (and I'm wearing slacks). The fit and finish are excellent, and it locks up like a tank! The only thing I don't like is that the clip is polished steel - I'd prefer a black or bead-blasted clip.

I've got my eye on the Caly3 and/or UKPK for EDC.

While I strongly dislike the comet-shaped hole on the Byrd knives, the new G-10 Byrds are such a great deal I almost feel compelled to get one!

Mr. Glesser, your line-up is starting to look more and more impressive.

try the bm doug ritter lg gripper has axis lock s30v steel is ambidextrous and drop point wide blade like sebbie with out the cost and about the same price better lock and liter knife in my opinion:D

just got my full sized manix the other day..in fact ive been playing with it for the last hour..it hasnt left my pocket since i got it monday

Strange... my Mini-Manix I'm playing with right now has a (stock) BLACK clip.... do you have some pics of it? Did they really change the design in this respect???

btw: If you're going to try a G10 byrd AND you like your Manixes, don't buy anything than a Cara-Cara G10 knife. It sits right next to my Manix and it is "one-of-a-kind" knife. One GIANT bang for the buck.

.

I'm on the same boat as you. I love Bm, dont get me wrong, but I find myself carrying my delica4 wave more often than my modified version of the ritter mini grip. The Ritter mini also cost double than what I paid for the d4

Another reason why I'm loving spyderco so much is because Sal takes the time to talk with his customers here as well as the spyderco forums. I have yet to see the same treatment on the benchmade forums.

I don't have any pictures, but the clip is shiny stainless steel. It looks like the original clip. I'm considering calling Spyderco and seeing if the MiniManix replacement clips are black or stainless.

Is this advice due to size, feel, or solidity? I am looking for a smaller knife for EDC (though preferably a Caly3), but would consider getting a Byrd for travel where the possiblity of wrongful seizure exists (maybe I'm paranoid from hanging out in the Knife Laws forum...).

Sal,

If you're reading this, what's the possiblity of a non-locking G-10 Byrd?
The non-locking UKPK (essentially a Caly3, as I understand) seems very popular, and not just in the UK.

My clip is black, but I took it off and put a coat of flat black on. Not as shiny now, and I like ti better.

The mini-Manix is hard to beat. I'll even grab it over a full size Manix.

I really like my 83mm Manix (seems "odd" somehow to call it a "mini"). That and my Caly 3 have been traveling companions on more than one camping / hiking trip.

That said... I also like to carry my Ritters (both sizes) and find them quite useful as well as a bit lighter than the Spydies. But if it really, really had to be there and be dependale and work first time, every time, all the time... I'd pack my ZDP D4 and my Para-Millie. The Delica has never failed me in anyting I've asked of it... never... ever, and the Para-Millie is a bit more useful to me with it's slimmer blade shape and it's easier to keep clean because of it's open construction. Lockbacks are my personal favorite styles, but for hard outdoor use, it seems to me that open construction knives (as long as they are well made) have a slight edge in the "clean=dependable" department.

Me too. I just got a full-size Manix in yesterday and I was disappointed. The MiniManix has all the right little details to make it a substantially better knife, in my opinion.

Hmm, I have a full-size Manix and I can't imagine the Mini being better... to me the full Manix just fits my hands so nicely.

Does Spyderco call it the Mini or the 83MM Manix ...? Me no remember. In any case, it is one of the more substantial folders in the Spyderco linup. I'm betting if you handle one, you'll be impressed. :D

Hi Jag,

We're working on some byrd non-locking projects. All take time.

The Manix and 83mm Manix are both the result of customer requests. the range of desires from our customers is quite wide and varied. Trying to accomodate all of the desires does present its challenges. It is rare that all models will please one or one model will please all.....That's why we have such a great variety in size, shape, locks, materials, etc.

Try to keep in mind that we are a relatively small company. Most of the designs come from Eric or myself. We also have the "day job" of running a company, working shows, etc.

I do have to give the Mini Manix it's due. It is one tough knife that does fit in the pocket well. I departed with mine like a fool and won't make the same mistake again.

:jerkit:

I have both the Manix and 83mm Manix. I love them both. I grip the Mini at the choil and the Manix behind the choil.

I never owned a Spyderco until I purchased a Native from Wal-Mart. My second purchase was the Mini and since then my collection has been steadily growing.

Thank you Mr. Glesser for so many wonderful products.
