The Mist.

I cannot believe "It" has not been mentioned yet for Stephen King adaptations. That was one of my favorites. I am also a big fan of "The Shaw shank Redemption" and "The Stand".

If they do do the Dark Tower series, I hope they do not mess it up. It has the potential to be fantastic as long as they stick to the books.

Oh man, good point! I had never seen the Shawshank Redemption until a year ago. Very very good film.

Good Stephen King films:

Stand by Me

Carrie

Christine

Shawshank Redemption

The Green Mile

The rest vary from adequate to appalling.

I just finished the movie...
I really enjoyed it...
But it was not a masterpiece like some of the other films by and means.. But was worth that watch for 4$...

Also .. you guys forgot to add Misery and IT to the list.... Two of my other favorites by Stephen King....
Dont forget a funny classic.. Maximum Overdrive....!

I hope they dont do it to Rain Fall by Barry Eisler. If they stick to the book it will be an astounding movie.

Is there ANY good book that Hollywood hasn't managed to turn into trash in a movie?

The Lord of The Rings movies made it out OK. However, most of what Philip K. Dick wrote and ended up as movies, like Minority Report, Total Recall, Blade Runner, and others... Well... They were futuristic-themed stories with the same character names as the books and short stories. Actually Minority Report wasn't HUGELY off base...

Yeah, I guess LotR was OK but it suffered the same problem most movies-from-books suffer, when I read something like that I have pictures in my head of what the characters look like and how they sound and the scenery and suchlike. LotR came close but still a bit disappointing, certainly one of the better efforts though.

Probably the movies that came closest to the books IMHO were the Godfather movies, I thought they cam pretty close.

Just watched it. I have to say, I'm really disappointed. Especially after seeing King and the Writer/Director gloat about how they put the script with a lower budget studio than their offers, just to keep the ending that no studio wanted to shoot.

Steve is notorious for having no idea how to end his books. Just look at The Dark Tower series. Great series, horrible ending. He could have stopped anywhere along the way and would have had a truly epic series, especially had he cut out the whole Metafiction whining about getting hit by a car scenes.

For those of you who haven't read the Dark Tower Series, he literally brings the entire plot to a grinding halt around book 7 or 8, pulls you back into normal, everyday life, out of this epic fantasy series, just so he can get in some good jabs at the guy who ran into him with a car while he was writing the book. And it's all downhill from there.

Steven King, whatever you think about his books or his writing, is a talented storyteller. It's really unfortunate that he's accepting outside input on how to end his own scripts instead of just going with what happened in the book.
