the moment of truth

I would go for the khukuri as well, 13" blade with some wieght behind it and a good shap edge. Thats only if I was done crapping my pants though ;)

Whatever knife you can attach to the tac rail on a Glock 20.

Actually, I would prefer a lightsaber

Your dead because of your short sightedness to hunt anything even squirrels in bear and cougar country without a large caliber sidearm.

How many times must this kind of post be posted? You don't bring a knife to a gun fight. Use the right tool for the job and in the case of hunting any game even dove, quail, squirrels etc in known bear and cougar country it is patently absurd to hunt without a large caliber handgun and let me state for the record it should be loaded on your hip in holster and there should be a round in the chamber. Just to clear that up for some on this sight who increasingly seem to be intellectually challenged. I would think that most of the people on this sight would know and follow this kind of logic, but yet we constantly get bombarded with post like these.

Didn't you know that internet is synonomous with stupid ;) Some people like to post seemingly useless and immature things online (see my quote followed by the wink.) Honestly, if I see a bear coming I hope I was allowed to carry my 357, because that will be my response. What knife do you want with you? Stupid question in my book, unless I have no other choice. Hence many of the tongue and cheek replies.

On a more serious and realistic note, I just finished reading "Day of the Grizzly", a book which recounts the history of human interaction with grizzly bears in California, from the early Native Americans, through the Spanish and 49ers, up to the grizzly's extinction in California.

Even given the single shot blackpowder rifles of most of that era, it was a bit surprising to me how many of the encounters ended with hunter taking his knife to the bear, and most of those guys lived to tell the tale (though often with horrific wounds.

So I would carry a long, sharp and sturdy knife, try for the chest or throat.

My Dad has a hardback book that's a collection of articles appearing in Outdoor Life magazine. In it is a story about a Canadian Indian that shot a large black bear at 200 yards with a 30.30 rifle. He thought it was dead and straddled it to start skinning it, when it jumped up and knocked him over. It began mauling him pretty badly and it at last stopped. He realized the bear was very sick from the bullet wound and stabbed his skinning knife into it's belly, ripped it's intestines out. The bear died on-top him and after he manged to get from underneath it, he had to walk a mile home and he ended up blind in one eye and crippled from the mauling. But, he did survive because of his blade!

A lightsaber with a lasersight.

So I don't miss when I throw it like a girl and run away peeing myself...

For the ones that don't know Kabar is named afther a poorly written letter the company recieved.

In the letter a man congratulated the company for their good knives and told the story of how he killed a bear with it (he wrote K a bar).

It may be ridiculous, but damnit if it isn't cool

Anyway, for the task at hand my trusty Fällkniven A1 would come to use. Even though the chances are higher for me to have a S1 with me on a hunting trip. Boy, what a great knife that is

Friend of mine actually had a close encounter with an enraged boar (hey, you'd be pissed as well, if somebody shot at your family!), and consequently nearly bleed to death in the Czech woods (fortunately they got a great EMS over there). That's the reason why I carry a .45 while boar hunting.
