The more things change...

The nexus between the Imperial Associated Companies/Imperial Schrade and Camillus is just too strong to ignore. As you know, my own research into Schrade, and the Baers is what led me to research Camillus as well. They very much share the proud heritage, twin paths leading all the way back to a hardware and dry goods store in Vicksburg, Mississippi in the early 1860's, and back to the European continent before that.

I sure would have liked to be around back when Albert left the Kastor's to hear the real story. Did they ever make up? I know they did business through the years and the brothers spoke to Albert and Henry often but where they ever friendly again. Like genealogy my 1st hobby its the stories that always intregued me. Sorry for putting my Kastor flyer in a Ulster page. As I get more into Camillus' history I'll create a seperate area.
If you havent read Camillus's history posted on their page I would suggest you take a little time and do so. Our very own Tom (Camco) helped the author Dexter Ewing put it all together.

Yes, they eventually buried the ax. Though the relationship was never again as warm as before the rift. In fact, in a 1962 letter from Alfred Kastor to Albert Baer, he mentions Baer having sent him the gift of an original letter written by Alfred's father in 1910 detailing his philosophy of selling. From what I can gather, as much as being a business rivalry, it was also a form of "sibling rivalry", Albert being referred to by Alfred and by Mr. Lewis in post-war correspondence as having taken advantage of a "pet relationship" with his father and uncles.

You folks who live in the Northeast might recognize the town names Fairmount, Camillus, Syracuse.

Here is another Syracuse Knife Company, Syracuse, NY. also from the late 1930's.

And an A.W. Wadsworth & Sons Germany DRP.

This one dates from before 1915, according to Mr. Levine.

Here is a new addition, an A. Kastor & Bros., Germany 3 1/8" nine bladed knife. Some of the implement blades are not extended in the photograph. It has a genuine MOP handle, and all five brass liners are milled all the way around.
