As they say, I might not be able to tell you what makes a Bowie knife a Bowie knife, but I know one when I see one. :)
If I could take a Mulligan, I'd add "Bowie" to the choices. But, as I explained way back on the first page, there's just so much disagreement over what a Bowie knife actually is that I chose not to. Oh well.

I voted for the USMC knife. If you took generic copies of the Buck 110, the USMC, and the Drop Point hunter; I feel the USMC knife would be the most identifiable.

I almost voted for the 110 but I would have to say the barlow or boy scout knife would be my choices although I didn't see how to "explain". Maybe that is what I am doing now.

The last thing in the world I intended when I started this thread was to have it turn into a discussion of what a "Bowie-style blade" is.

If you mean a clip-point, then yeah, no argument.

If you mean this, though, it's going to be an interesting conversation:

I'd have to say Bowie is the classic American knife.
Samael, your photo bowie looks somewhat like the Perkins-Shivey bowie. could you tell more about the bowie in your photo??

When I think "Classic American", I think "Earliest designed by and American" and it's continued use (or not) from that point coming forward to today. Jim "invented" the Bowie, and it's still going strong today. The Buck and others are relatively "new" designs, that are "Classic" but started in a different era and are not as old in design. I'm not even sure if the Buck or others in the Poll are "First time ever invented" designs or copies/modifications of a folder from another country (Laguiole or other folder?). I don't know.

^^Good point.

Many classic designs (i.e. Sodbuster, Toothpick, etc.) that we're used to are actually copies of or based on designs from other countries.
