There has been a lot of specultation recently as to which production knives are illegal. Personally, I would not want to test the legality of an Axis lock folder in court.

Is just me, or doesn't this knife fit the definition of a gravity knife?

Boy, I hope it doesn't get put into some definition as a gravity knife. Because if that where true, than a larger size lockback folder might be the same. Put pressure on the lock with a finger, and gravity will open a bigger lockback. Ya know, the government has to protect us from these "assault knives", even though the numbers show that most assaults with knives probably occure with a fixed blade kitchen knife.

My vote is for da man,DDR and his MAD MAX,its got gravity, enertia, and that tab you press! And if that ain`t enough, the length alone could getcha 3 hots and a cot most places, and hey,why concealed weapon to!Maybe 5-that`s up to five-count `em five laws you could break at once,if you was in the right place at the wrong time.Go Darril Ralph!

The AXIS only becomes flickable if you disengage the lock first and then flick. My MOD CQD does the same as well as my bolt action Gerber. I think this rules it out.

The most non legal knife ever put into production is the Florida Spy Knife Company's KGB style ballistic knife. It is ilegal in all 50 states and is the only knife that is.

Mike nailed it.
The EVEEL Ballistic knife, that could be used by drive by copkillers in schoolzones has got to be the most illegal knife ever.

Oh, it doesn't matter that there is no record of anyone ever actually doing anything illegal with it, because you see, they MIGHT!

As has been pointed out on occasion, you can get a license to have hand grenades, but not ballistic knives. I mean, at least the ballistic knife can be used as a tool, if it is not fired, but a hand grenade can't be much more than a higly dangerous hammer, when in it's unexploded state. Where's the logic in that?

I would not want to test the legality of a Leatherman Micra in court the way things have been going recently!

I am nervous about walking around with a Ken Onion Speed Safe folder though. I would guess that just about any non-knife person would think it is an automatic. I also watch who I open my Sog Switch Plier in front of.

Wanna get hassled my the cops? Carry around a box cutter in plain view. They are always interested in anybody who insists on carrying a retractable razor blade.

For all you knife knuts. I'll let you in on my secret. Whether or not it will ever hold up in court is something I don't hope to find out. I wear a tape recorder with a microphone and I go up and introduce myself to a local police officer and I explicitly ask if it is okay if I carry said knife in said location on my body. I do this to three separate officers. I then lable the tape and store it away for safe keeping.

So far, all I've gotten is strange looks and / or compliments on my knives.

My knives do not make me any more a primitive caveman than the rocks you carry inside your cranium.

Mike hit it on the head.

The "Ballistic Knife" is basically the only thing in America expressly illegal in all 50 States (except for maybe a Thermonuclear device). Federal law prohibits your having, owning, possessing, shipping, giving, making, lending and any other term you care to discuss. With the correct paperwork and taxes paid (were applicable) you can own Machine guns, Flamethrowers, Dynamite, Hand grenades, Rocket Launchers, Submarines, Jet Aircraft, Pointed Scissors . . . . you name it and you can own it someplace in America . . . except that knife.

By the way,

abner normal,

Soliciting individual Offices for their "legal opinion" of the legality of a certain knife in a certain place will not help you any. (Not to mention that you run the risk of that officer explaining that the knife you are carrying is in fact illegal . . . right after he finishes reading you your rights and is placing you in handcuffs

)

First off, in most states that I am aware, tape recording persons without thier consent is a crime (except for Law Enforcement Officers conducting a specific criminal investigation). That alone may be enough to get you thrown in jail.

Even looking it up at the library or Online can get you into dire straights as current "Case Law" often may conflict with the written letter of the law. Case law can often effect different areas within the same State differently.

Then there also may be local ordinances that may effect your ability to carry in a specific area.

A better course of action would be to contact an Attorney in your area that deals specifically with Self Defense cases and weapons laws. Or simply going to and obtaining a written opinion for your local State Attorneys Office (the folks that would prosecute you if you were arrested).

Hope that helps.

I know that inertia openers are viewed as illegal, but I feel that that the Spyderco Civilian would make a jury cringe. Especially if it was taken as evidence in a slashing and there is still blood on it.

This is a pretty interesting topic. I don't know exactly what a balistic knife is. Call me dumb, but I really don't.

As far as what you carry, let me put it this way.

I work in a major city, in the largest/tallest building in the city, and I am just an office worker as far as any of the "guards" are concerned.

I am not a criminal, (brings back memories don't it), but, in my pocket is a MT LCC Auto. Yeah, I know it is illegal for me to carry it. I use it to open things, a tool, that is what the dog gone thing is for anyway
!!!!!! So, if some LEO who has nothing better to do decides to "search" me, and I am a pretty unassumimg looking guy anyway, and he finds my knife, well....what next...

If the real LEO's out there don't have anything better to do than drag me into court and jail for and "illegal" weapon charge, then I don't know what this world is coming to.

So I say, look and act like you are invisible. Just blened in. Nobody will notice you. If you look like a bg, then someone is definitely (maybe) gonna hassle your. But a businessman. Geeeshhhh...give me a break.

Ciao from the Steel City....

Lundo,
A ballistic knife actually shoots the blade at the target. From what I understand they are good for about 30-35 ft. but not very accurate.
Since I know that none of my bro's here would break the law, does anybody know anyone who has shot one?

I don't know anyone on this site that has actually gotten close enough to smell one. But, by all reports the thing is a POS. The user is the most likely victim. Lets see you stand there and try to push this sharp pointy object into a tube, against a strong spring, to engage a locking device. If it slips do you want to place any bets on who is going to get stabbed.

It's kiddie trash pure and simple. If it were legal I wouldn't mind owning one as a novelty item. But, that is about the extent of it. It is a Darwin Award in the making.

Actually my roommate had one in college. Pretty cool.
Looks like a baton in two pieces when it is "loaded". Remove the top baton cover, then you pull the hand grenade style pin, aim and depress a short lever trigger.
Zing the blade and spring launch forward with incerdible force. Would go through 1/2 inch plywood at 5 feet.
I will not mention his name as it is attorney client priviledge.

Maybe Darril could make the Mad Max as a ballistic knife and get it made in China! That would break the law 2 moer times! Then we get 7 counts,Darril Ralph>>DA MAN!
