The Most Important Survival Skill

Two, what appears to be a redtail hawk at about 1 o'clock in the far horizon. And the rarely seen Blondeous babilicious--We can see here that this particular specimen is of the Gluteus maximus variety.

Good information. I wish I had something constructive to add other than a 'thank you' to the previous posters.

I always check my 6"

Bragging... OK, I jealous.:grumpy:

Just kidding. I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, and it's something I continually test myself on, (being more observant.) Unfortunately, I come up short almost everytime.

Great post!

if you're watching that brown throated thrush as you're walking along, trip on a root, fracture your skull and bleed out.Gautier

Though observant enough to spot the thrush, he was observant enough to spot the root on the trail.

'Tis another interesting point.

I recently hiked around Lake Mountain in Victoria and went with my Biz Partner and friend. I found that I was watching the trail so much, as we were moving quicker than I normally walk, that at the end I felt that I missed seeing the area. Paul, my Biz Partner, is walking the Kokoda Trail next month and is in fitness training mode.
I've now come to realise that I probably would cover less ground than others of a similar fitness level just because I like to stop and look at EVERYTHING:o

My problem exactly. Out of the woods, my head is always moving and trying to gather as much info as possible. In the woods, not so much.

Hence, why I'm eagerly awaiting Mr. Jones' thoughts on improving awareness.

Hy, guys - haven't forgotten. Catching up on life here after helping the family deal with my friend's death. Gotta scan the document and use text recognition, then fix the text recog mistakes and I'll get it posted. By next week for sure, if not sooner!

Best,

~Brian.
