I visited an old widow today an she was cleaning out her house. Her husband was a hobbyist wood turner that worked with tree cutting for the county. He was collecting the burls as turning wood. I asked if I could buy some of the elm burl and she sad i could have it all. So I ended up with this and two mid sized blacksmiths hammers for 60$. It was all i had. She was well happy and me to. I've added one of the hammers for size comparison its a 1,5kg (3.3lbs) hammer.

Man you got took! All that wood is garbage...but also hazardous. I am emailing you my address. If you send it to me I will dispose of it properly. ;)

Nice score!

The burl on the left in the first pic looks just like a Pug. ;) :D:D

[Nice! Looks like some very good burl.]

I think one of those is dogwood burl :)

You will be very happy with that elm burl. It makes fantastic handles, and is really great for puukko.

Cut one up and show us what the burl looks like finished.
But....don't mess it up. Just teasing you.
You should cut this the same way you would cut a maple burl.
If the faces of your blocks are parallel to the outer surface of the burl, that will show off the eyes the best.

Gems unveiled! Both nuggets are cut out of one piece the size of a bays hand. Taken up to 600 grit and then a splash of water.

that is really nice.... I get cherry and maple burls quite often.... rarely elm.... nice find....

Burl is the best. I looked in a woodshop in Michigan this summer, but they had nothing decent in stock.
Your burl is beautiful.

Do you still have any folders? I've seen that you had some big sales.
Don

Please, lets not start sales talk here.

FWIW, I don't think peppen sells anything yet. Maybe you are thinking of a dfferent guy?
