The Mudbug!

Just came across this knife when I peeked at the GEC production schedule and saw these are coming in Feburary to Smith and Sons.

Been looking to add a large Sodbuster pattern to my collection and this one ticks all the boxes..... 1095, variety of micarta handle materials, and should be affordable to boot. Knowing it's made by GEC means it's going to be a high quality piece.... real workhorses for sure!

And my favorite..... black linen micarta:

So.... who else is excited about these? :D

Outstanding! How long are the blades on these?

Relatively thin and lightweight. Blade perfectly centered. Solid lockup. No blade play. Excellent blade grind.

And mine came razor sharp.

Nice one Al. After you've carried it in that sheath for a bit, how about letting us know how it works for you.

Thanks, Ed. Yep, this one begs to be worked out and will be put thru the paces this Spring/Summer.

Very nice, Al. The red looks great! I've been enjoying mine so far. I passed on the sheath, though, as I don't think I would use it.

This is a quick iphone pic of the two I received. I wish now I had also gone for red or natural micarta, except I really cannot justify a need for 4 mudbugs and I ordered them with the #85 was coming out. The simple design and utility of the sodbuster grows on you once you actually use one. They are large and really good in the hand.

Unless you want it with the lockback then the GEC #71 would fit the bill. I think there's a comparison photo earlier in this thread.

I received my black linen micarta last week, and I have to say, I'm blown away by the fit-and-finish for the price.

Perfectly-centered blade, tight lockup with absolutely no play, great factory edge and grinds, and even a nice subtle swedge that I wasn't expecting.

I'll get a couple pics up once I finish cleaning it up (all of my traditionals get a mineral oil cleaning to remove any, if any, factory dirt).

This is a working knife, through-and-through. Fits my hands perfectly. For a large sodbuster pattern, I don't think it gets any better than this.

Some good pictures of the Mudbug in this thread. I've got one with the OD Green covers coming.
