The Naked Farmer

You have a lot of skill, it's fascinating to see the job evolving, really admire this.

Did you get the Nifebrite scales off without breaking them? I ask because I have a 2 bladed GEC I'd like to get turned into a single-blade. Nobody who I've suggested the project to seems at all optimistic about being able to get the bone scales off without breaking them during the strip down.

Thanks, Will

Thanks again for the kind words all.

Willgoy, during disassembly I cut through the end of the birdseye pivot and punched it out the other side. From there it was a simple enough procedure to punch out the center pin and the lanyard tube. I suppose I could have drilled out the pivot and gotten the covers off intact but remember these are impact resistant covers to begin with.

For a bolstered knife the usual procedure for disassembly would be to take a thin blade, slide it between the liner and springs and cut the pins. I'm unsure of how difficult it would be to do this while retaining bone covers- they would be at highrisk for chipping or cracking. Certainly guys who do this for a living have a more valid opinion that I do!

I'll echo what others have said, that turned out a nice knife, and I appreciate you being so thorough to post the WIP pics for us all. Nice work!

Had this knife in the pocket today and decided to check this old thread only to find all the photobucket pics watermarked.

I updated the pics to imgur and wanted to post a pic of how this knife is doing six years and one pandemic later- still no blade play and going strong.

Hope everyone out there is doing well.

Thanks for updating the pics and bringing this thread back up, I enjoyed reading through it and seeing the process. The knife turned out great!

(I have been unsuccessfully looking for a Nifebrite #99 for a while now, so knowing there’s one less out there is a bit disappointing, but I think I’ll be alright.) :D

This one started out as a GEC #99 Farmer's Lock in nifebrite but fell out of my good graces when it developed side to side play while prying open...a watermelon.

The question remains:
In the intervening six years since the repair/re-cover, have you used it to pry open any additional watermelons? :D

Good to see you still have her, and she hasn't been demoted/delegated to "display only duty". :)

That's a good one fishhunter!

Well I don't use her as much as I would like and I'll admit she's not been watermelon tested again- I think that's just fine with both of us.
