GS, off topic, but combinations that I've used successfully that grow around you (some of which won't be available now, of course)

In no particular order (drills first, then hearths):

Teasel (Dipsacus sylvestris) - Willow (Salix spp.)
-Eastern White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis)
-Staghorn Sumac (Rhus typhina)
-Eastern Cottonwood (Populus deltoides)

Great Ragweed (Ambrosia trifida) - Willow (Salix spp.)
-Staghorn Sumac (Rhus typhina)
-Eastern White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis)

Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) (not my favourite) - Willow (Salix spp.)

Sweet Clover (Melilotus spp.) - Willow (Salix spp.)
- Eastern White Cedar (T. occidentalis)

Staghorn Sumac (R. typhina - spliced tip) - Willow (Salix spp.)

Bull Thistle (Cirsium vulgare) - Willow
- Eastern Cottonwood

Willow (spliced tip) - Willow
-Cedar

Cedar (splice tip) - Cedar

Gray Dogwood (Cornus racemosa) spliced tip - tough one! - Willow

Eastern Cottonwood (spliced tip) - Eastern Cottonwood
- Cedar

Jerusalem Arichoke (Helianthus tuberosa - my favourite) - Willow
- Cedar

Canada Goldenrod (Solidago canadensis - most stalks too thin) - Willow

Basswood (Tilia americana) - Basswood

Cattail (Typha latifolia) - Eastern Cottonwood

So you see, GS, there's a lot of combinations around you, although not all will be available at this time of year.

There are others that would work too, just that I have never used them.

adamajc, you don't need to post attachments, but you do need a photo host, something like Photobucket or Image Shack - both are free. You upload your pictures to your photo host, and then link them from here.
