The Negatives with my Mule order

I just got my Mule knives about 2 minutes ago. THey seem to be very well made and I look forward to giving them handles. However these are most likely the last ones I will get and the last time that I order from the Spyderco website. I just paid $15 for shipping and $35 for brokerage fees:mad:!!!! The website did not say how the orders would be shipped, and I wrote that I would like them shipped USPS as UPS is a total rip off.
I received my email notifying me that the order was processed but never got an email about how they were shipped so I assumed that my request was followed through with. I understand that it is the companies perogative on how they ship but this is the only time that a company has not shipped as I requested. I am not knocking Spyderco's products as I will most likely own more in the future, but paying $50 to get two $40 knives makes the deal a lot less affordable. Looks like I am going to be missing out on future orders as a result of the shipping alone.
I guess that means 2 more for the rest of you on future runs!!
(I just needed to vent- sorry all)

Perhaps Spyderco could set up a distributor in Canada? I'm not familiar with the shipping and customs situation, do you think that would help?

Well crap. I hope I don't get the same when mine arrive here. Every company I deal with uses USPS. UPS is a nightmare for cross-border shipping & paying $90 for a single Mule blade in 52100 is too extreme for me. :(

USSR - USPS uses Canada Post to clear the border. We only end up paying either a $5 or $8 handling fee and tax. UPS charges an extreme handling fee as shown above. So all Spyderco would have to do is ship by USPS for us.

Here in France the situation seems to be even worse... I calculated that a single mule shipped to France with UPS would be about $130. They seem to ask for a fee of around $25 in addition to the 19.6% VAT we have here.

[Edited to add:] I got the mule and other stuff (big spydercase and sharpmaker DVD), in order to spread the shipping fees and UPS fees on a bigger order, but you still have to really want the knife to have it shipped by UPS.

I wonder if you would have better luck getting your orders shipped the way you want by placing via the phone instead of using the web-sight? Just a thought. Those extra fees sound like a bunch of BS.:barf:

I just called home and my two mule team knives arrived at home in Canada (I am currently out of the country) and my UPS charge was only $12 and change. Maybe you should call UPS and see if there was a mistake ?

Careful... They will track you down and correct the mistake! ;)

USPS does screw Canadians (me included). My wife and I had some custom books done up by a US company for Christmas and UPS nailed us like $20 in brokerage fees to collect the duty. The duty? Like $2. Insanity.

Check. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Not a problem. I am hoping Sal himself will check in and perhaps offer some suggestions on how to make sure our orders ship by USPS in the future!

Sorry for your diosappointment "Cuts".

It seems there were a few complaints of overseas shipping costs. We'll have to look into thaqt more closely.

USPS offers no way to track lost shipments. We've lost quite a few and then there is even more discontent.

Thanx for the suggestions, keep them coming.

Is it just tracking LOST shipments?? I received my wedding ring set form Delbert Ealy on the 11th of last month by USPS and I tracked it online at the time.
If I would have called in the order would it have been shipped as I requested
, as others have stated or is there no flexibility in shipping options? Just wondering what my options are. When my daughter goes down for a nap I am going to call UPS and try to get a reversal.

I just got off of the phone with UPS after a long argument where the lady refused to say that a 43% Brokerage fee was too much, in fact she said that the $30 is what I would have been charged even if my product was worth $30, after all "we have to be able to stay in business" and that anybody that told me they paid less were liars! They are apparently going to "goodwill" back to me $31.03, but they are going to put a marker on my name and address so that I don't try this again.
Some vindication but still a very frustrating ordeal with UPS giving me attitude from when I said hello, and I always act professional and polite when dealing with people.
Good luck to everybody else, I learned to call in before I do any email orders in the future and hope I do not miss out on limited runs.

Still really like Spyderco!!
