I was lucky enough to get a hold of a couple new Beckers. A BK9 and BK7.
Both are the updated versions, laser etched and the new tougher coating.
Most of you are familiar with the new coating as it has been on the tweeners and the BK4. This is the first of the large knives I have seen with it. The thing I wanted to talk about is the sheaths. They are a big improvement over the old ones. They no longer seem like a $5 afterthought from China. While Im not saying that you wont want something different, this is a sturdy useful sheath that should give good service if you dont want kydex or leather. A big improvement is it is Molle this lets you strap it to packs or even carry it scout style.
The main belt loop is velcro and a snap, great for a large knife since you can take it off and on with out removing your belt.
It still has the pocket that will hold an altoids tin and has a sheath for a Remora.
The liner is still the plastic universal one. You can heat it up and press it to get a better fit, but the knife fits good other than a little rattle at the tip. The top is held securely in place.
Here is a close up of the coating after a few sessions of chopping and a bit of batoning. It has thinned a tad but is still holding up great, I dont think Im going to strip this one.
The BK7 came in the Masters Series sleeve with a special message from Ethan (I was lucky enough to win this in the chopping contest) Thanks!
And a couple shots just because. The BK7 I rattle canned the scales foliage not sure how it will hold up but I like how it looks.
