The NEW Post Your Campsite/gear/knife/hiking/anything Outdoorsy Pic Thread!

I may have posted these pics already, but it has been on my mind as I eagerly count down the days to my big trip this summer. One of the reasons that I like week long trips is that it gives me time to truly decompress, away from everything. And I plan my days so that I have plenty of time at the end of the day to explore, or sit and watch the sun go down. I try to plan it so that I am in a good location at the end of the day so that my campsite offers some exceptional scenery for this. Here are my campsites on my big trip last year.

First night at Bearpaw Meadow, in the white fir forest

Second night in Deadman Canyon

Not immediately visible in those pics from Deadman Canyon, if you go just a few paces to the left of the trees in the first picture, I took this after dinner as the sun went down:

Third night, on the shoulder of the Whaleback above Cloud Canyon

From that camp as the sun went down:

Fourth night at Gallats Lake

Fifth night at the lowest lake on Picket Creek (Sarah's Lake)

View from camp as the sun went down

Sixth night in Kaweah Basin

From camp looking east as the sun went down

Seventh night in Nine Lake Basin

And finally, eighth night, completing the loop, back at Bearpaw Meadow

This year's trip promises to be a good one...I still have room on my permit if you are up to it.

Those are the best kinds of trips  I'm green with envy over here, can't wait to see your pics from this year's trip.

Michael, wow! Just awesome. I love the shots with the line of folks in them, gives you a great sense of scale. Looks like an excellent day hike!

I did a little one this weekend, almost stepped on a little rattlesnake when we sat down on a peak for lunch. The weekend before I was walk-in car-camping in Big Sur with the GF. Will have to get some pics up later. I'm getting lazier and lazier these days after getting home, sorry :o

Stream shots in Deadman Canyon, Kings Canyon NP

The larger rocks here are car-size

Small meadow in Deadman Canyon

And at the mouth of Deadman Canyon, a sure sign that you have descended to the middle elevations...manzanita and jeffrey pine

Love it

It's mind-boggling to think about how those car size boulders were deposited there.

MAn, this pics sure help to make it through a Monday stuck at a desk! If only I could be transported there right now :D

Russell - Yep, those glaciers moved a lot of rock. I always like to see the big glacial erratics.

Tknife - I know exactly what you mean. Right now at work I have two monitors, and I try to keep one free so I can look at the background. I have 380 of my pictures on 30 minute randomized rotation as background, so it can get distracting at times.

I had surgery a month ago so this is the first outing, trying to get back into the swing of things.

This was on the ride out

Lambertiana, you're killing me with those pics man. Hmm, great sights.
That snowy hike is very cool as well, milani. Great pics too. Love the atmosphere around them.
Scout, good thing you're able to get out again. Seems like you had a good time.

Great pics, guys. I took an extra day this week, and am supposed to be on the Kentucky side of Big South Fork right now, but after 6+ months with no problems, my back crapped out on me toward the end of last week, and I can't get straight even after a couple trips to the chiropractor:(
Did go on a dayhiking date last week.

Sorry to hear your back crapped out on you bud :thumbdn: Pack issues are really a pain in the ass, not that I've had anything yet that's really put me out of commission, only muscle strains. What's the plan, wait it out? Hope you recover and get back out there soon.

And, sweet, hiking dates are the best :D

I've got to get back to posting pics here...

Cool!! What's with the spikes in the first picture?

I'd love to explore that old castle. One of these days I'd really like to do a castle tour of Europe; they're so fascinating. (Though I don't really know anything about them really, that's probably the ruins of a modern fortification for all I know)

Nice spotting scope shot:thumbup:

Ah! I see! That structure in your first post is a bunker, not castle ruins; I'm an idiot. Reinforced cement inner, stone/brick facade...

Thanks for the information!

we rode cunningham park in queens yesterday for the first time - nice, flowy track. single-speed friendly - very surprised to see so many locals riding full suspension bikes though.

me trying the pump track near the end of the ride (thanks to patrick for the pic)...still sorting the pics i took...a bmx would be awesome here.

the architect in me was drooling - the interior beams were exposed and opened up all the way to the roof...gotta go back there with a dslr next time.

these guys are the real deal though - run by and frequented by racers...no hipster fixie kids here despite how the shop looks.
