Here they are fella's

The new Rat Prototype affectionately being called the Mini-Spec Ops (for the time being ;))

SR101 4.5" blade, .25" stock, same size handle as the HR and Bandicoot. The regular combat model will have the black coated blade, however to showcase the great grinds on this knife we had to show you the first one uncoated. Introductory price will be under $100, hopefully available to order the first week of February.

All the above info including the pic is subject to slight modifications until full production starts.

And this knife does need a name....what should we do about that

Do NOT post any names until the OFFICIAL contest is started, only names that are post in that thread will be eligible to win. :D:D

Any Questions?? ;):D:D

Very attractive, well designed Tanto. I think a stainless version would make an ideal dive knife.

questions... what kind of sheath will it have? Will it come with a penetrator tip? and can I see it next to a bandicoot?

I think that curve you are seeing is just the photo. :D:D

The sheath is undecided at this time, the penetrator tip will be standard on this model and hopefully sometime in the future we will have some more pics. This is all we have for right now.

Thanks

:D:D

I will probably have to get one even though it is missing 2.5 inches, here is the question, will the "spec-ops" have the same name as the mini?

The Spec Ops knife already has a name, we just haven't told you what it is :D :D

This new knife will have a name of it's own, not a variation of the Spec Ops real name.

What!? The 'Spec Ops' name is not really a 'Spec Ops'name!!

I did not know that...;) :p

The best thing I like about this knife is not only the 4.5 stout length, but the 1/4 thickness....oh, did I mention I like the price too!

:D

I want 2, remmember me Eric!

Hiya Eric,

Quick questions on the blade:
1. Is it flat ground?
2. Convex edge?
3. Height? (edge to spine dimension)

TIA, -- Greg --

p.s. Yaaa-Hooooooo!!!! Bring 'em on! :D :D

1) Yes it is flat ground

2) It has a double convex edge

3) Now this is the Proto so things might change, but right in front of the choil the blade width(height) is 1 5/16" and tapers as it goes towards the point.

Hope this helps :D:D

Wet

Sure! And the proceeds will go to Jennifer's pet charity...
Good idea?

Eric --

The choil in the Proto photos appears to be 1/2 the size of those on the HR and 'coot. Will it remain this small or be increased to a useable size?

Thanks!:)

Eric, nice looking knife. Was wondering, what's the OAL, and can people order them uncoated. I dig that Raw/unfinished look that the blade has:D. Plus, I prefer an uncoated blade non tactical use. (Thought - Might that bring the cost down a little?)

6"+ blade would be cool too.

Approx OAL will be 9"

At this time we will only be selling them coated. One way we are able to offer these knives at such economical prices is to keep everything as standard as possible. Even something so minor as an uncoated blade causes us additional work because we have to either pull one before they are coated and then keep track of who has ordered it or we have to remove the coating afterwards.

This is also why we don't except custom orders, it is just an extra project or step that a small crew can't handle and keep the prices down.

I hope this helps.

Drew,
The final knife may change slightly from this prototype, it is hard to tell at this time. :D:D

Wildman, You can remove the coating with ordinary paint stripper. There's a few prior threads here on the SRKW forum with info from others who've already done the project.
