Been wanting an RTAK for a long time but my budget hasn't allowed the purchase.

Now that I'm ready to buy I find out it's dicontinued and being replaced with a new verson. none of the venders I'm familiar with have one in stock.

Well they do have the partial serrated model, but I really want the plain edge.

two questions. Does anybody know of a vender who still has a plain edge RTAK in stock? When is the new model due out?

Thanks for any and all help

Looks like an ordinary machete to me. $8 at the army surplus store. Must be something special.

What I do when I want to find something I put its name, RTAK, into Google and hit the enter key. There are several hits for the RTAK-1 with plain blade. Is this your object of desire? Rapid Threat Assessment Kit?

Check out the home forum at www.ontariorat.com

The last word I saw there was that the RTAK IIs were supposed to start shipping in late July. I don't know any vendors that still have the PE original RTAKs off the top of my head, but there is a dealer list at the above site you could search through.

Willard,

I show you how to find what you want.

In return you insult me.

I piss on you.

Can anyone tell me what changes will occur in the RTAK II? I like the bladeshape of the RTAK, but found the handle to be one of the worst abominations I've ever had the displeasure to grip. I almost feel as if Ontario purposely designed a handle that wouldn't work for me personally. Just because you're paranoid, and all that .... :)

Would love to hear they're doing a handle redesign

edit: found the answer on the RAT forums. They are making the handle more ergonomic, more like on the RAT 7, and also addressing the tendency to twist, which I'd also heard about. If they get those things right, should be a fine piece if their 1095 holds up well

Just to prevent this thread from becoming wothless without pics - here is a pic of the prototype RTAK-II, IIRC.

Does anyone happen to know when the RTAK-II will finally start to ship?

Cheers
