The new rules on bumping...

I understand the concerns & issues people are saying. I originally thought it was too strict, however, after looking at in the long-term (When most everyone's onboard with it), it won't really be that complicated & should slow the rate of your FSOT threat shooting down the page or pages.

The issue about price drops, I think, is that some people do & will abuse it. What would be an acceptable amount of a drop to warrant it vs trying to skirt the system? I do see the point of having price drops, but 2 things should be considered.

1. Change is usually something most of us are not too sure of. So we like to stick with what we've been doing.

2. When most people are onboard with the new rules, the rate of your thread moving down the page(s) "should" slow significantly. Also, it just means that you should check the F/SOT threads more thoroughly to see if anything's changed (Added items, dropped prices, etc).

The biggest issue I see right now is people paying attention to the rules. I fully understand there are only so many Mods &, initially, this is alot of extra work for them. However, I think over time, it'll be easier to spot the violiations.

Interestly, I would think new members should have less of an excuse for violations vs older members. After all, if they're new, they should be reading the "current" rules, right?

The tough part is the honest ones that want to obey the rules are going to suffer (Watch their FSOT thread plummet) while waiting for the rest of the members to either read the rules &/or do the right thing & follow them.

I admittedly violated a rule a few days ago & just locked the thread. I haven't opened a new one yet, so I didn't gain anything from it, but do want to be part of the solution, as I do think we'll see less movement ONCE it's fully in place.

Of course, nothing's perfect & maybe there'll need to be changes, but for now, I see this as a plus.

The new rule has changed my selling behaviors for the better. There is no need to say you have responded to emails/PMs/etc or that you have sold the item...this does make for a better forum experience.

On the other hand, the price drop (say more than $5) is an important issue to consider. This is the primary reason people have decided to buy knives from me. It seems like that would be a simple edit to the new rule. Keep the new rule in place with the exception of a $5+ price drop.

I'm not putting a $5 price drop rule in, because that hurts the guys trying to sell their knife for $50 or 100. $5 for them is a much bigger deal than the guy selling a custom for $900.

That's my point though, a 24 hour bump rule compared to 72 hour bump rule should require a more significant price drop. Most of the price drops that I see are at $5+ regardless of the price of the knife. My guess is that someone previously dropping the price by $1 or $2 is only doing it to get bumped up to the top of the list.

Just a paying members opinion...your forum, more power to ya.

Mark, if you could post after 24 hours with a lowered price, would you also edit that new price into the original post? If not, after a few more buyer inquiries, that new price might be hard to find. People tend to skip to the end, and not read the whole thread. That's the idea behind not posting separate changes, but putting everything in the OP.

I would esav and I usually do. I agree in that IF everyone would use the OP for ALL changes to the thread, it would make it easier to see what's going on. I believe that's one of the reasons the moderators changed the rules.(plus others).

It's just going to take time for us all to adapt. as CL01 said "Change is usually something most of us are not too sure of" ( or like) :)
