Dang. Rained so much lately there's huge puddles/small ponds that have been lingering for two or three weeks. Mosquitoes are crazy right now. At least that shot I got from the doc helped immensely with my allergies. Got a big nasty blister on my foot and I'm moving soon so all the blades I just got and have coming will have to go untested for a few weeks. :( Moving out of a run-down crap apartment into a nice house with a couple college girls. :D It will likely be no where near as cool as it sounds, but they do have a Nintendo 64 with 007 goldeneye so it'll probably still be pretty cool. At the very least I'll be saving $200 a month on rent so hopefully I'll be totally debt-free in about two years. Or probably 3 and have a crap-ton of sweet knives. Though I already have a bunch of sweet knives, but there's always a few more. Am I right? I also need to get some gun projects finished up too. Decent optics are expensive.

007? Gawd that's old skewl! :D

Ps, I now have the best keychain kit ever.

Yesterdays firestarter investment has already paid off!! Zippo failed In The car ride to WalMar and I lit a cigarette with the chinese strike match I ordered. Love that's it's practical now.

Fed the cats when I just got back , 'twas dark, used my light to find the catfood bowl, man I love being a human and having light.

I like zippos but I don't use a lighter enough and with fluid evaporation I might as well just pour it in the sink. I've only heard of two companies that make butane zippo inserts and the one with the best reviews turned out to be a piece of junk for me. I generally just fall back to Bic lighters. I carry a bic mini quite a bit. But while it is convenient, There's no character or cool factor at all.

Might have to try out one of Zippo's BLU line.

I love those type of lighters fir outdoors use as it lights woods shavings in just a fraction of a second compared to a little time with a bic and the flame is more reliable.

You're better off with the $4 walmart butane torch type lighters though.

I dont care for it too much smoking wise as it burns my cigarette very rapidly, don't get the lighter fluid taste if the 1st couple drags but burn is worse and I also fear that I could bur my face, the flames aren't very visible in bright light and that stuff is HOT

Tried one of them too and had the same issues. Just never reliable. Adjusted it, bled it, topped it off. Just not consistent.

I don't smoke, only carry it for starting fires and maybe melting paracord every now and then. But for $40 for one of the zippos, I guess I'll just stick to bics.

It's $30-ish for a classic one around here

On side note, just opened my 1st can of squid ever; it's black and inky and the scariest thing I've ever pit in my mouth but taste ok

Since I'd never made a bark (or leather) handle before, this one involved a lot of trial and error and I probably have 5 or 6 hours in the project.
going to try it again with a small Brusletto blade in the near future and see if I can do that one faster.
Stacy has a pretty good tutorial on stacked handles in ST somewhere. It involves making a false tang on which to pre-compress the pieces. Works pretty well

Went to see Steve Earle and the Dukes last night. Awesome.

'twas apparently a Spanish dish in a can called "calamares en su tinta", squid stewed in it's own black ink with tomatoes, onion, and spices. Was very good and a far cry from fried calamari, for a dollar at Walmart...I need more

Bsmith, Yes you are! However THAT takes dedication right there!

Steve, Hi I'm Jared. Squid ink pasta is one of the few "seafood" dishes I actually enjoy. I don't have it very often (actually haven't had it at all in the last 6 months or so since I stopped working at the restaurant) however it's spaghetti with squid and black ink, and we usually threw in clams and scallops with some marinara and some onions and peppers, and poured in just a little white wine to thin it all out. It was quite delightful actually!

Copperhead Road is one of my favorite songs.

That sounds nice :) I hear if squid inked pasta but tossing it in with the sauce sounds great! Hi Jared, nice to meet you
