Did anyone read Jerry (The Man) VanCook's article(Personal'Round-The-Clock Defenses)? Well I took his advice about sleeping with a knife last night. I clipped my Gerber Guardian Back-Up to my pjs and went to bed. I woke up this morning to find the sheath unclipped from my pants and the knife floating around under the covers somewhere! I'm lucky I didn't pull a Lorena Bobbit on my ass...Thanks Jerry! lol

Yeah, I read that. I think stuffing a knife between the mattress and boxspring would be safer (let the handle stick out for a quick grab). Better than under your pillow or something.

just my two cents.

But that's where I keep my machete! lol On my night stand I keep my Greco Whisper...that would probably be the first one I grab anyway... That thing is just made for fighting!

I'm scared that:

  1. I'll accidentally poke myself in the heart, OR
  2. I'll go crazy in my sleep and stab myself to death
    [/list=1]

That's why I never sleep with linerlocks around, and I keep a fixed blade either under the "mattress" (I sleep on a blanket on the floor) or just a bit further than arm's length from where I sleep.

Back when I had a roommate, I was once reported to be sitting at the computer in the middle of the night, typing away even though the monitor was turned off... This, along with frequent sleep paralysis (hypnogogia) and very short REM/dream onset times have made me really worried about my sleep.

So, keep those easy-to-unsheath knives away from your jewels. You never know what you do in the night.

No weapons in bed for me. I have a AR-15, fully loaded, hanging on the wall next to my bed and a 45 in my night stand fully loaded. If thats not close enough for me to get to it before I need to fend off an attack I will have to reply on what god gave me. Two arms and two legs. They have been my only means of self defense on more than one occaision.:)

I caught that article. I must admit though that the weapon by my bed is a gun. 15 hollow point rounds are going to do me a lot more good than any knife when I’ve just woken up. Also I sort of assume that anyone with the stones for home invasion has probably brought their own gun.
any one who is dumb enough to not leave my place immediately upon entering and seeing the knives and swords all over probably deserves two in the head anyway. The gun by bed is the only one I’ve got.

p.s. it's on the night stand which has a fairly discreet shelf not under the pillow

Some of these articles, although well meaing, just sound like a bunch of wannabe crap to me.

Sleep with a friggin knife for god's sake? Why not just keep a gun by your bed? Would that not make more sense? Some of this stuff is just bizarre...

I don't want to get hurt or killed anymore than anyone else, but honestly, if the people who write these articles really live the way they advocate, I feel sorry for them.

Interesting responses to the concept.

I have not read his article, but this issue has been brought up before.

If you knife is not staying sheathed through a sleep cycle, I would direct you to www.survivalsheath.com, please employ Robert to have an adequate sheath made for your knife.

If you have absolutely determined that your sheath cannot be the issue, I would suggest trying a different method of keeping it close, by either placing it under your pillow or in between the mattress and boxspring.

As to the concept of having a knife with you at all times, why wouldn't you? I mean, if you are not going to have it all the time, why carry it at all?

I sleep with a small Sebenza clipped to the front pocket of my PJs. I live in earthquake country and have been through a couple big ones. I know I won't have to look for the knife. It's worked well for me.   :p

As it is, my wife complains about my knife affliction. All I have to do now is bring a knife to bed ...

I'll get the ultimatum - It's either the knife or me!

Well, it's been nice knowing my wife for the times we've had ....:D

Clipping a knife to the pj's sounds novel except for the fact that I sleep naked. Where should I clip it? LMAO!!

HEY! That's not a literal question ya wise bastids!:p
