The New York Custom Knife Show- For me. POST YOUR IMPRESSIONS PLEASE

Jon, sorry to hear of your automotive "adventure". If you think as I do, you're thinking of repair costs in terms of knives you could have purchased. Glad to hear you were not injured and the car is drivable!

Missed the show due to work and family obligations. I find myself saying that so much recently but it is a reality and I'm glad for it (from an employment perspective). Sounds like a relatively busy show and I'm sorry I didn't get to spend a few minutes catching up with the likes of you, Joe, Coop & Susan, Kevin Casey, Kirby Lambert, Michael Donato and several other folks I don't get to see often.

Blade is where I get my ABS fix so this show is actually cool for me as it sways tactical. I've grown to appreciate the craftsmanship and precision inherent in the better tactical knives. I enjoy the feeling and sound of the actions as you flip open the folders. The great ones are like enjoying working the mechanism of a fine bolt action rifle. Also, I don't cringe at carrying them like I do with ivory handled ABS knives (a personal problem I am determined to someday overcome. Jon, you get all my respect).

Thanks for the posts from those who made it. More pics would be great.

I'm surprised you didn't mention being in an accident, glad your OK.

Thanks for giving the fighter a new home and having Coop work his magic.

Rob you outta try it. We only live once. You love a little nice fancy pocket knife. Well, put it in your pocket!!

Thanks for the compliments. And dont worry about me, I didnt get hurt, just some cosmetic car damage.

Glad to hear that you made it outta that little fender-bender Jon! I love how you always have a wicked Hanson folder on you that you aren't afraid to use...kudos brother! I haven't had the chance to make it to that show yet, but I'm definitely going to need to schedule it in sometime in the future. Sounds like a great time!!

Mike, you want the one coming up in the Spring. That is the more ABS style show. You should try this year! Crash here if you need

Jon, sorry to hear about your traffic adventures. It was nice seeing you at the show only sorry we didn't have more time to talk. The traffic was indeed heavy both Friday and Saturday. I agree with the comments about the tactical bent of the show, it becomes more that way every year which is OK as I admire and collect tactical, ABS, engraved, traditional and some that don't even fit in any of these categories. 50/50 and crew put on a quality show.

You are right. I'm headed out in a few minutes and will tuck a Hanson in my pocket (safely nestled in a Paul Long pouch!)

Although there were some beautiful knives, the more famous makers knives were by lottery only. Since there was an advantage for those whose jobs (bloggers, resellers) allowed them to stay for three days of lotteries each hour (you had to be present) us normal collectors were left out. Additionally, the area around the beautiful hotel was a hell hole. I would not attend the show in the future without going with a group. I do love meeting the makers, they are often very approachable and helpful; and very nice people, which makes it hard to stay away.

This is wrong, I can't agree with you. The entire road for a mile in either direction was prominent offices, hotels, restaurants, condos and malls. We walked as far as wished and only saw commuters, not anyone that was threatening.

This was the view outside of our studio window. Condos, and that's the 1776 foot tall Freedom Tower across the Hudson. :)

Labeling this clean area as a 'hell hole' is unfair to anyone who wants to support this venue. This was in a Hilton hotel. That says volumes.

Coop

Agreed Coop.

The area could hardly be safer or cleaner. Jersey City is a happening place these days. Let the scarcity of popular knifes dissuade newcomers, not the environs. And we're all carrying blades anyway. What's there to be afraid of? :)

Happy thanksgiving forumites.

Much appreciated Jon! This spring will be pretty much out of the question(WAY too much on my plate this go-around), but we'll definitely consider the offer for a place to crash when we do make the trip...as long as you promise to keep the traffic collisions to a minimum of course:D Plus that would give me the rare opportunity to see that awesome collection of yours in person!!

Jon,

1) First, it's great that you didn't experience any injuries in your mis-adventure on the trip. Glad you weren't hurt!

2) I've been noticing a distinct difference in your writing style for some time now. I had been figuring you were having a friend do your writing, with the style having changed so quickly - and so dramatically (WAY for the better). Reading your earlier response to the compliments you've received, sounds like you had it in you all this time but never bothered to exercise it. Good for you. You are MUCH better reading than before, and this thread is a great example of the change in style.

Bob

Thanks Bob. There's a big difference in clarity when I sit down, think And focus rather then impulsively scratching down mY thoughts.

Wow, what an adventure, glad to hear you are OK.
Also, thanks for your impression of the show. I know you have more passed experience with this show than most of us.
Great folder and fighter, we seem to share similar taste in knives.

In regard to your above post, I feel that's the case with many of us with busy schedules. Sometimes we can dedicate time and effort to our posts and other times it's just a quick comment, making of a point or our impression of a knife then it's quickly on to the next matter at hand.

And then too, I think we all write a little better/clearer at a desk in front of a desktop keyboard or laptop then when we are out and about trying to peck a post out on a telephone or pad.

By the way, I've always enjoyed reading your posts. Not every one has to be a literary masterpiece. ;)
