Bottom left of the picture. This was at the Vegas show, and whoever took the picture said that that is the next Buck/Strider.

What can I say, I take the easy way when putting a picture in and link it instead of attach it.

I'll stick with the plain edge models.

My thoughts exactly...I asked if they would be optional, but they said no. :(

I like the design of those fixed blades, but I cannot understand why they want to add serrations? I wish manufacturers would realise that majority of serious knife users really don't care for serrations. They do have their use, but in my opinion it is a specialized one. For a heavy duty fixed blade, a plain edge is the most practical and the easiest to sharpen in the field.

Beyond the serrations, is there anything different about the folders?

Very nice, BTW.

The fixed blades look great, i wonder if they will stick with the ATS-34? That might mean a $200 price tag though. I think i would file off the pointed guard, not sure what my feelings are about that.

I wish that Buck would come out with a nighthawk Handled BT and MT bladed, knife in 1095 or 52100b carbon steel, but i dont think that buck does carbon steel.

Hi All,
Here is the low down on the serrations.
We all know that a sharp straight edge will cut better than serrations, I’m sure I'm preaching to the choir here. Most if not all of the people on this forum have the ability to take a stone and maintain the edge on their blades but this is not true for the wider populace. Most of the general public and a fair portion of Military guys will manage to use a stone to dull their blades even more, presuming that they know of the existence of stones.
While I would like to sit these people down and lecture them on the importance of gear maintenance and basic skills, I think adding a few serrations are the better option.
I would hate to think of some young kid out in the big sand box learning this lesson the hard way, so think of the serrations as a “get out of jail free card” for them.
There is still plenty of nice smooth blade for the rest of us.
Thanks,
Cormac

The teeth are probably a good idea. . .

Is that the whole line? Is only the spear point going to come in the small size?

So when are we going to get some specs on these? With release Dates.

If you don't like the serrations, you can grind them off and reprofile your edge. Or, is you can wait, you can always run your flat stone over the serrations every time you sharpen your knife and eventually the serrations will get ground away.

:D :D
Thank you for posting those Steven!
I keep coming back to this thread to check out those fixed blades.
Yup! I like em.

Ive been thinking I needed a Strider solution for a while. But have put it off just long enough now to have some other options.
Several it seems.
Really like the 3rd and 4th ones down.
THe 4th down appears to have a blade similar to my long coveted Favorite Strider model the MT... or maybe its more like the BH model.
Anyway a nice beefie bowie blade.

The handles are quite different from the Solutions in that they lack a finger groove. Is this new design more like the Strider design or merely unlike the solutions?
Has anyone got to hold them that can offer a comparison.
How about dimensions?
THey look to be in the 7 inch blade realm.

Lastly I have to vociferously agree with the plain edge crowd.
It's not just a knife geek thing, Serrations are a great option and defiinitely have their place. But I love my SP-1 sans serrrations and wouldn't want it to have them.
This will be a marketing blunder in my view to only have them available with cheese graters!
They are still cool and will sell, but it would be much better to have an option.
That said I'd still buy one of the fixed blades with serrations. I think it's more of a drawback on the folders.

Yep, too bad about the serrations. I'd buy that spearpoint folder in a second if it came in plain edge.

Will the plain edge buck strider folders come with the new rounded edge g10 handles? When will the switch occur?

Am I missing something here? These folders are just the old ones but with:

  1. Serrations
  2. Slightly rounded G-10 scales
    [/list=1]

It doesn't appear to be such a hard thing to round off the scales with a bit of sandpaper. You might want to handle the knife first, to see if it even matters if it's more rounded.

So TorzJohnson, have you thought about buying... the non-serrated version? edited to add: Hmm, maybe you posted that as a joke. Let me know if I'm being an idiot. :)

Looks like they just rounded it, but if you dont know what you are doing and try to do it yourself you can cause problems. That is because G-10 is some nasty stuff to breath.
