So I just hit a mile marker in my business, something I have always dreamed of since starting to sharpen back in 2010. I have always wanted to build a folder. Some of you may know from following my WIP story on Instagram how this folder has been coming together... but just the other day that dream was finalized as I got my blade back from DLC.

So I wanted to give a shoutout and big THANK YOU to all of you guys out there who have supported me throughout the years by either allowing me to work on your knife or the referrals and recommendations you gave to others. It would not have been possible without you all. I'm looking forward to taking it to the next level in the future and putting more builds together as I continue to work on you all's knives =)

Specs:
  • OAL: 9.125"
  • Handle Length: 5.125"
  • Blade Length: 4"
  • Blade Thickness: .190"
  • Blade material: Cruwear at 62rc by Peters

It looks very well done, personally I don't like the fuller, the straightness stands out too much and clashes with the swoops and curves of the handle and (impressive) blade grinds. A swedge might have fit better, but again design preference is subjective.
But if that's your first you set your own bar reallllly high and I can't wait to complain about not being able to afford a custom. :D:thumbsup:

Beautiful piece Josh!
Happy to lend a hand with throwing some biz your way to help you on your path.
In fact I might have another for you soon...;)

Defientaly unique, with a cool factor. Great clip position, or would be cool to beat it up and see it’s utility. Wouldn’t want to sharpen it though, not that sharpening is going to be an issue for you. Congrats!

Btw I like the Emerson style clip on it as well.

importance of the liners etc., being parallel
YES !
I haven't built a knife ever, obviously, but I'm sure you are right and that out of parallel parts are causing some issues in my off the shelf knives. It will be interesting one day to go into some of them and find out if I am right and what can be done.

Hey; what did you say the black transition between the Mango Burl and the white bone like material is ? I missed it.

As far as a kname it looks like a cross between a kodiak bear and a polar bear if that helps any.
Wow ! What a blade !
Super nice grinding ! DLC !
62rc (now you're talkin')
I like the idea of opening it when you want with the groove. That's cool.
Brilliant action.
Looks like you are winning !

Congratulations! That looks top notch Josh. Wouldn't have expected any less.

Super cool knife and great video. I like that you build to your own style. It works. Also, thanks for the technical details.

I like the fuller, and the way the blade is wicked, but flows together with the rest of the design. If this even went to production, Itd look really good with battle grey micarta scales, satin blade, and satin hardware, but thats obviously just my personal tastes.

Amazing job man.

That's great feedback thanks! It definitely needed something because it would have been too blade heavy. I contemplated adding a swedge as well but figured I could always do it later so left it off hehe.

The transition is just buffed g10 =)

The cruwear at 62 seems to hold a really good edge, I'm liking it quite a bit. I never had corrosion issues with it when I carried it before the coating (even though it's not a stainless), but the DLC should just add to the rust resistance.

Beautiful, comfy looking handle.

Thanks! I am contemplating adding a small amount of checkering on the show side - for where my thumb lands when I go to grab the knife as it's quite smooth right now. But surprisingly the juma has a decent 'gripiness' to it when my hands are ultra dry - unlike g10. We shall see, gonna carry it more.

I like the fuller and the way it plays against the asymmetry in the compound grind. It looks great. It's also an easy to replicate design feature should you want to have a "signature" in the design language of future creations.
