The NEXT SALE

what time might someone going to ATL this Friday Blade show want to get in line? first time at ATL bladeshow. Have my eye on a couple items.
Really, it depends on your tolerance for standing in line. Some folks are there, ready to get in line, even before the lobby doors open in the morning. It’s been a few years for me, but I arrived about two hours early, for “early bird” entry, and the line was an already out the door. Once the show doors open, the line moves quickly, so even if you are a ways back in line, you’d be in there within ten or so minutes, I would think.

People were here Monday morning to camp out and line up! I couldn’t believe it, although it was pretty nice to confirm there’re certainly crazier knife people than me. 😆
ah well. I haven't bought any tickets since I'm not sure I can make it. looks like the early bird tickets are gone, for some reason I expect all the knives to be gone in the first 30 minutes lol. was just hoping to get a 8-in shiv.

I waited in line once in the wee hours of the morning for a Black Friday sale. I hated every second of it and I could not wrap my head around why folks do that regularly. I never did it again and I've had zero regrets. I couldn't imagine camping out days in advance. Time is more precious than a knife and I never have enough of the former.

Truly though, best of luck to you all, I hope you make some epic scores and that you'll share them with us when you get back.

I am right there with you on this topic.

I have camped out at Blade a couple times to be near the front of the early bird line hoping to get a rarer or one off CPK. One year a friend and I were the first ones from the early bird line to reach the CPK table only to learn that all the best stuff had already been cherry-picked by dealers or VIP’s with Exhibitor passes that were standing at the table waiting for the opening bell to ring with cash in hand.

My early bird expectation bubble was forever changed as well as my desire to ever waste precious time camping out there again. If someone is seriously interested in scoring a rare knife at Blade, find a way to score an Exhibitor Pass or prepare to likely be disappointed.

Aside from the one-off hand ground knives, every other CPK is a special tool that is very desirable and will serve you well for a lifetime of use. I commend Nathan, Jo, Mark, and the rest of the CPK team for bringing ever larger quantities of knives every year to be sure their customers can leave happy that they were able to score a CPK regardless of their ticket status.

I wish all the Blade attendees luck scoring some great knives and more importantly great times meeting and hanging out with knife makers and forum friends. That is the most memorable part of the experience.

Phil

Well said, gents.

I've been through the drawings, (and won), for a Bose knife at Blade, and was fortunate enough to have Exhibitor passes from makers who were dear friends over the years which allowed me access to some very special knives on the Thursday evening before the show opened. I was still lucky once the show started, but by then I could afford to miss a piece or two that I had my eye on.

The best part by far are the friends you get to see again, or make along the way.

Been a few years since I last attended. But I keep telling myself I'll go back again one of these days.

Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist I think y’all should seriously consider doing no sales to exhibitors until 10:30 or something next year. Camping out starting on Tuesday morning only to get to the table and find exhibitors with arms full of knives was rather painful. Many makers wont even sell to vendors/exhibitors at all anymore and that would be the best move in my opinion. Thanks for the cool knives today!

At that point, why wouldn’t you just buy a table space to enter on Thursday?

I think I paid like $700 for my spot. I value five days of my life a hell of a lot more than I do $700.

I didn't know That was a thing.... Yikes.
I feel sorry for the folks who sacrificed their time to wait/camp out.

Line Jumpers, are something Else.... And that's what they are, line jumpers.

I was going to hide my badge and go buy a K20…. But I figured the Knife Handle Supply shirt would give me away. 😂

On a more serious note, that’s pretty lame for exhibitors/dealers to do that… and to miss the opening bell at their own table to buy something from another. Yeesh.

At CCKS in LA it was a similar shit show . When the doors opened, all of the koenigs and striders were cleared out and those tables were empty, but half of the other retailer tables were selling those pieces marked up $200 per knife . Like wtf ?

Our next sale will be Friday June 21st

40 Basic 5 in Magnacut. HRC 62.5 (SD .16, CPK 1.67, this batch looks really good, no sign of trouble)

If you like Magnacut or have been wanting to try it out, this is going to be a good batch for you.

Also:
I have processed some of that cool old vintage Micarta brand International Paper phenolic into some sheets for this and we're going to be running some scales. Rather than get our regular natural micarta (which is Accurate Acculam) try this stuff. IP had just bought the brand from Westinghouse and this was made in batches in a press rather than pultruded. Like Westinghouse, it doesn't get fuzzy when I machine it and it sends the load meter up into a range I'd associate with aluminum. This is really good stuff, they don't make this anymore, and I bought tons of it so I can offer it to you at a really good price.

Out in the main sale area here: https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/for-sale-fixed-blades.754/

Sale is at 3:00 eastern time.

^ Jo, Bo, Mark, Ben, Carl, Trevor, Sadie, Tanto and I hope to see you there.

I’m really sorry for my ignorance on this post but what does “SD .16, CPK 1.67” mean?

From what I found online, CPK (other than Carothers Performance Knives) is capability index and anything greater than or equal to 1.67 is considered excellent, but I’m not sure if that’s what you’re indicating here 😂
Again I apologize, but thank you for your time!

I was going to ask the same thing. Assuming SD is standard deviation.
