The non-HI coastal-zone holy grail knife...

Here is the Ladybug and Manbug side by side, Manbug in black and only available in full flat grind......my mom's house ate my foliage green Ladybug and i will be getting another instead of Manbug.....the MB has a slightly blockier handle and slightly deeper blade....pocket weights within a 10th oz or so on either (as in, 0.5oz vs 0.67oz).

I think advantages slight enough i will go with the LB which is cheaper.....but both are cute little jewels and cut and cut even in stock VG10...the blade is slightly thicker on the MB but personally think it only done so as full flat grind inherently weaker and so thicker needed to equal strength of the stock LB....

And, Bawanna, a truth in advertising moment......

The Delica was my first love in the type, and even more so in the Salt 1.....but i also carry the big one (Pacific Salt) just because i can, a guy never knows and this one light enough i can do that.

But when it comes time to pop out a knife at the Post Office, the MB/LB or Salt 1 always....the Pacific is just too much for most jobs personally and visually.

And these are light enough i can easily carry the 2 or 3 (generally 2).....one for using and one for just in case.....and the MB/LB generally that other...

The Salt 1/Delica is almost a serious knife, serious enough several defense schools train up folk (particularly women) with dummy versions also sold by the company....enough demand even for dummies....

The MB/LB will never be as instinctive at opening and closing as the Delica/Salt 1, and frankly, neither is the larger....the medium sized seems perfect for the human hand, and still their #1 seller.

But the LB/MB far more perfect for a breast pocket weight...at half an ounce....but the Salt 1 minus clip not far behind at 1.8 oz.....even the largest minus clip is only 2.6oz (and hardly over bolted linered smaller new Delica weight)....

Your benchmade AFCK isn't nearly as worn as mine - on mine there is no logo left, just a shiney round metal spot, and the G-10 handles are worn almost completely smooth. I carried it in my right front pocket for quite a few years. Tried to find a replacement at one point, but they were already out of production and the prices for one in decent shape on ebay were already crazy. I also have a bunch of the older Spyderco knives, too, some early ones with the integral pocket clip, and some later ones with the metal removable clip. But then I discovered ZDP-189 steel, and I was fortunate enough to get one of the limited run of Ken Onion designed Kershaw Shallots from Oct 2008 (model 1840CBZDP) with a 3.5 inch "composite" blade made with a ZDP-189 edge (supposedly 67 HRC). I used it very hard for well over a year before I felt like I needed to touch up the edge! I really like how thin it is for pocket carry, and the "speed-safe" assisted opening mechanism with a "flipper" works really well. Here's a link that has a picture of one http://www.epicedge.com/shopexd.asp?id=86667 You can still get the model 1840 with a standard blade, and once in a while they do a run with special blades and/or steels. I hope that someday they do another run with the ZDP-189 blades - I'd love to pick up a spare!

Mine was carried about non-stop for well over 10 yrs but generally IWB and quite protected, and on purpose....which is why so little wear, except direct handling.....but no loose change or keys scratching past or etc....i have seen quite a few worn smooth and why i am not impressed with the material being anything super-duper....and even when i first got the thing, was not impressed with the inked aluminum sticker posing as a medallion on such an expensive knife....the plain far cheaper zytel Delica Clipits seem to hold up every bit as good although my other has patent info worn off clip....all depends on how and where carried as much as actual use in showing wear.....

Little something for all y'all here-waved, not waved, an Emmie...
The gray delica is a FFG VG-10 I got in the exchange and reground to the Janich/MBC/Kahr arms profile-the other has a forged 15n20 blade with vinegar patina that I made largely out of low impulse control. The emerson's been to a fair number of places, often involving sand...
Incidentally the zip tie wave trick works beautifully with these little tiny zipties-position them on top and tighten with hemostats or a leatherman. Zero effect on slimness or carryability.
Only problem I've ever had with the wave was when I carried at the 1 o'clock, to the right of my belt buckle...sometimes it would fire(as it were) partway when you take the pants off at the end of theday (when it's 130 and zero humidity out no point changing trousers all that often) and it would be waiting for you, half open the next AM. Never had it go when I didn't want other than that.

That's a nice Horseman you got there JW. Mine haven't come back yet, but here's a before picture.

Been very short on time lately, but I will try to post my Emersons vs the Spydie soon. Keep the input coming, it's cool to hear everyone's different perspective on things.

That's a fullsize CQC-8...#139 to be exact :P . It's just been convexed back so far it looks wee...

Ahh I see that now, my bad! I've kinda been eyeing a Tiger, if I can find one. How do you like that blade shape?

My babies are due back today, after a little post office fumble. They will get a full thread for themselves, showing all the work done. Still pondering whether to post in the Cantina or the Emerson sub forum. I think you guys would really appreciate it though, and they have tons of those threads over there :)

Nasty cutter, indeed. From cardboard to rope, plastic containers, twigs, vines, saplings, soft wood, duct tape, cordage and nylon, zip-ties...

That thing on the background is an asphalt spreader, yes. The Spyderco Pacific Salt works fine combined with that type of machinery, rasping and scraping dirt, dust, asphalt and stuff from the instruments and delicate parts...

Easy to clean afterwards! In the pool, for instance...

The Zip-ties are indeed for fast drawing of the knife, or drawing while in awkward positions, Video as an example...

I don't know your preferences, but I really recommend trying them out! The smaller Salt I would be a great EDC, not so agressive and really comfortable and unobtrusive in the pocket. Can't go wrong with it! Or with any of the Salts, really.

Dude you work with an asphalt spreader but you live in a castle with a moat and awesome view in the background?

You need an assistant? I'm your man. I'm a nice fella once you get to know me (after a long time)don't eat much, ok if I bring my wife and a truck full of guns and sharp pointy things?

For me it all comes down to personal preference. Serrations are great for a ton of cutting tasks, but I still avoid them like the plague due to the difficulty of resharpening. Likewise, 95% of my knife related tasks could be done with a utility razor, but what's the fun in that?

A good friend of mine carries a Delica Wave, and I do like it. It's a great knife, just not my style.

As Bawanna says, my main goal when using a knife is to look cool at all times, and for me that involves waving my CQC-7 out to open a box or cut my sammich in half :)
