As a trail building tool- named after the birthplace of a renaissance in offroad bicycling- Dan Keffeler's knife, of my design, intends to deliver epic performance;

thanks, Joe. I totally agree. Dan is a wicked cool guy.
Stu, you ain't kidding. I'm hoping you can visit soon and take this puppy out for a spin.
PD#1 has been an amazing performer.

So, like Dan said, he took this video the day before or maybe even the day we met up in Kirkland at the Seattle show.

You mighta seen this photo before, but here's Dan making the delivery;

I'll get into a few WiP photos later on. And some more video. And some glam. And some gore...

That is a freaking awesome and efficient looking design and execution. I'm envious but also happy for you. I didn't catch the weight and full specs.

Crikey, there's more "Chop-Chop" there than a Chinese restaurant with a 45 minute backlog of orders!!!

Love it a lot :thumbup:

Cheers....Pete

there are some specs available in the first vid, and more in this one;

The most amazing spec is the hardness of the steel. It's 60HRC! Holds an edge unlike anything I've used.

here's where things started;

Dan's Super Assassin was what inspired the pattern. I strive to put what I understand as the maker's 'language' into designs where I know I'll be working with a specific person. It's really good for me, as I tend to learn a great deal after the initial sketch is put to paper as that creates the dialogue. There is always a back and forth that I always appreciate most of all.

Another great piece from Dan.

I have to admit, it took me a few looks to get used to the overall profile. Big thumbs up.

Wow! Very cool design and execution. Unique appearance and it bites deep! Congrats, Lorien :thumbup:

How are you going to carry it? Do you have a sheath (more like a scabbard :eek:) yet? Would love to see this beast in it's cage!

ah, the sheath...I'll get to it :)

here is the Carpenter PD#1 micromelt steel, profiled to shape. Mortised handle, with ti guard.

And here is a link to Carpenter's PD#1 steel;

equal parts carbon and tungsten, also mid range chromium with a healthy dose of molybdenum and vanadium. It's got it all!
Forged blades are appealing, but performance-wise, I doubt this material has a peer. Please prove me wrong!

here's the second of the 3 vids that Dan put together. Blade is ground, fittings are getting fitted, handle is getting built...

and here are all the pieces, almost ready to start fitting together;

How are you liking the tsunami cord Lorien? Feel wise and cleanliness wise? Is it hard to keep clean?

I meant to ask Dan that last time I talked to him, but forgot to.

the tsunami cord has a great feel and delivers unparalleled grip in the wet, and interfaces with gloves using similar material, (chambrelle, fake leather stuff) in the dry. The Terotuf is quite abrasive and I'm glad to have cushy softness over that stuff because I usually don't wear gloves. Cleanliness I'm not sure about yet, and to be honest with you, doesn't concern me much. That bein said, I'm sure a little scrub with some dishsoap would do the trick!

I'm heading into the hills today with Lars and we'll be scouting some brand new terrain. Now that I'm mostly healed up, I got out for a few hours yesterday and took some footage. Here's a little explanation of how the knife came to be, and stuff;
