The OD-1 may be my first Kershaw purchase

Can someone who has played with one of these little beauties let me know whether or not they can be flicked open ( Aus Customs definition of a gravity opening knife ie. illegal)?
In the closed position, is the blade held in possition firmly by a secure ball detent or similar? Can the pivot be tightened so they are stiff to open?

I have been wanting to try a Kershaw for some time and this one has a tick in all my boxes, sweeeet looking blade - I want one but don't want Customs knocking it off due to our Graviture opening laws.

There is a ball detent and it does hold the blade closed. However, if you have tiny little fingers and are able to actually grasp the blade spine when closed, violent repeated shaking will eventually cause the handle to drop (it took a rag and a pair of needle nose pliers for me to find this out). The blade cannot be flicked open regardless of how hard you try.

Thanks for sharing the pics, that looks like a nice knife. Do you have any other pics showing it from the top? I'm interested to see how that flipper thing fits down in the handle.

I had an orange one for about a week or so, didn't get to play with it too much, my sister ended up liking and for her to like a pocket knife is rare so I gifted it to her, she carries it in her camera bag. A little side note about the OD, it was the sharpest knife I have received, I know it's just luck of the draw when it comes to knife sharpness, but I have purchased knives that cost 3 times more than the OD and it still beat them.

Also for all those who say they don't like AOs or recurves, my two favorite designs by Kershaw so far has been the RAM and the JYD (I&II), and if you do a little searching I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find other manual folders with the features your looking for.

60-61 IIRC. I could be wrong, but I think that's what it's ran at.
13C was ran at 59-60....I think.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The blister packs at Walmart say RC 58-60. I am looking at one right now that I bought for a gift.
I think Thomas said RC 59 was their goal +or-1.

I thought 13C26 was listed as 58 to 59 before they changed over.

I've been carrying it for almost a week now. I cannot quit reaching for it.

The flipper hasn't caught on anything, it hasn't opened in my pocket, it's not made in China,
yes it's a frame lock, it doesn't have a torsion bar, yes it is drilled for lefties, yes it has a lock stabilizer.
Did I leave anything out? :D

Exactly what i wouldve said.. the g10 makes it a better grip as well. Not to mention walmart has this on sale for $30 instead of $39.99

I had one for a while. It started out as almost impossible to open, but I fiddled with the pivot and kept working the action and it loosened up. I really liked the knife until I left it in the console of my truck for about 2 months. When I pulled it out the blade (and rear scale) was covered with rust spots. I don't know if it's the finish they put on that steel or what, but that's what happened to mine.

The truth is that both are excellent steels. I believe that 14C28 is more resistant to corrosion.

I have one. And I am always concerned that little round thing that is so fragile looking would get broken off easily. Why did they not just give it a good flipper who knows. That thing can be deployed faster than any assisted knife. So smooth and fast you do not need assisted with this one. Great choice for those considering it. But that darn round dohicky arggggg

Does it look like that flipper sticks out really far to anyone else?

If you are speaking of an OD-1 those knives are buttery smooth to open. If you had one that you had to do all that to make it open well you should have sent it back it was defective. that is if you are still on topic and talking about the OD-1

If you are talking about kershaws steels mentioned in the title. You would severly loose your bet. I may have the wrong nomenclature on the second one but not sure. Now for 13C26. My sons coworker had a needs work with 13c26. He had been stipping wire and cutting most anything with it. My son is a very very good knife sharpener. Dad taught him and he perfected it by 100%. HIs eyes are not bad and he does not have aurther.
He called me over to look at it. He said "Dad this guy wants me to sharpen this knife" Then he proceded to slice paper with it before he started to sharpen it. Kershaws proprietary steels are hard to beat for the price.

That's great news! I bet it's got some sick edge retention.

I know there is a representitive or seller of Kershaw knives on this site. Could you please tell them to make the OD-2 with the 14C28 and make it just like the Od-1. I just held an OD-2 the other day. What a nice small gents knife. Only the scales and the steel needs upgradeing. But I suppose I will never get my wish will I ??

I've always respected Kershaw for making quality USA knives at good prices, but I never liked most of their designs because they seemed to have a liner lock, speed assist, recurve, or some combination of them all. Well, I saw someone post these pictures in the Kershaw subforum and I think I'm going to purchase this. Best of all, it's only $50.

It has everything I like, no stupid recurve, completely manual opening, it's a frame lock, and I love the small touch where the flipper recesses into the handle when the blade is open. I always thought the visible flipper looked tacky on other knives.

It's sleek, thin, and the blade is a tad under 3", looks to be the perfect EDC.
