The Official Knives of the World Thread

Anyone know where I can find that knife that looks like cold steels kudu? Always wanted one with the wooden handle.

The Kudu is an interpretation of the Okapi knife. There are sites that sell specifically Okapi folding knives, and they have a good selection of wood handled ones.

I've seen some great knives come out of Poland, but mostly customs I can't afford.

There happens to be a custom maker from Poland here on the forums who's prices are quite reasonable. User name, Bona.

France
Spain
Switzerland
Norway
Finland
Sweden
New Zealand
South Africa
China
Japan

Traditional Chinese folder: Shilin Cutter

Last year I came across a tiny, keychain-sized one of these in my mom's house and assumed it to be cheap, folding kukri-like-object. I was surprised at how sharp and well-made it was upon closer inspection. It was the first of its kind I had ever seen, and it's cool to now know a little more of its provenance, thanks for sharing Oregon!

Very cool thread idea Redlynx....I'm at work today, but I hope to contribute soon!

I hope to respond to everyone in time, great knives and definitely some I'd like to add. Really appreciate the cool pics guys.

Are Shilin Cutters high end/expensive to add to my collection? I have never seen a folder with that blade-to-handle shape before. I might be in love.

Another option is a spyderco lum Chinese folder similar shape to the shilin

I would love to see a photo.

If it has a brass bale then it was made by Kuo. If a silver, triangular, bale then made by Chiu.

Top knife is Kuo, buffalo horn handle, brass bale secured to handle by brass pin which extends through the handle.
Bottom knife is Chiu, plastic handle, steel bale in a triangle shape secured to handle with ends of bale poking into handle.

Video of Master Kuo (all hail the Master!):

IIRC it had brass hardware, but I'll see if I can find it next time I'm down that way (she lives about 1 & a half hrs away from me).

Very good thread idea IMO. A few contributions...

A Marttiini and a bunch of carbon steel Moras when they were new.

The Shi-lin knife is well regarded in Taiwan, and quite rightly so. They are great little knives, they are often called a "bin-lan" knife as well. (betel nut knfe)

These are another type of knife from Taiwan that I very much enjoy. The mountain knives and head hunter swords are some splendid cutlery indeed. :)

A dirty pic of some of my collection.

I believe the Mercator K55 could represent Germany. Unfortunately I don't have a camera that takes pictures of acceptable quality... :o

Haze I'm really curious about those little socket handles. What does the other side look like? Does it start as a piece of flat steel, wrapped around a mandrel and then brazed together, or what? Cool knives!

I like this thread very much... off to take some pics!

I guess that would be a classic Saami knife.

And that would be sort of puukko
