I think there has been at least a cry for change, or reorganization, not a succession, but some counties in Oregon would like to leave it and join parts of a more conservative Idaho. Is that possible to accomplish in legal or constitutional terms? Just curious.

It is legal federally. The two states would need to approve it though. That would get sticky. Oregon wouldn't want to lose any power so losing that many people would be a problem.
 
That is a good point, a reduction in counties also affects their population numbers and thus representatives in the House of Rep.
 
Longstanding talk about it here in Cali too. They want to call it the State of Jefferson. Heck even a Wikipedia page on it, I just looked.
