The Old Rugged Victorinox Cross..... Pioneer content, grails and such.... Red Gold...

At one time, I wasn't too big on SAKs. Never had a dislike for them, but I liked stockmen, jack knives, and the old Buck 110. I did have a need for a scout type knife, but to be honest, those cheapies from back in the day just didn't do it for me and the nice ones were asking for a little bit of money. One day, we had a thread in the outdoors section where a fella from Italy showed us how to baton with a Victorinox Farmer. I was impressed and decided it was time to try one.

His Farmer was Black in color. I was smitten, A very rugged knife in a classy tuxedo color. What is not to like? The only models available here are silver. Silver is quite a practical color as they don't show scratches, but the colored ones do something for me.

I too have been bitten hard by these alox saks. Initially I didn't see what the hoopla was all about. Then after extended use their charms became much more apparent. I am interested in the colored versions like gold and green etc. But these are getting a bit touchier in price (up here) compared to the plain silver, which is handsome in itself. So I am looking at pics like these to see if the colored versions look scruffy after extended use/carry. Because what is the point of a nice colored version if they look like a rats behind after extended use/carry. So far from the pics that I have seen the colored versions seem to hold up well enough to justify going in that direction. We'll see. I have other tools on my radar at the moment. You have some handsome tools in those pictures.

While I don't subject my alox knives to unnecessary wear and tear, there is something to be said about a well worn alox SAK that is cared for, and not abused and neglected...

I love the look of faded red alox!!! Does that happen just from general pocket wear, or do you carry it in a pocket with something else that causes that?

The anodizing on the alox isn't the toughest in the world but it takes more than the lining of a pocket to wear it off. Being carried in the same pocket as keys, change, etc will chip/scratch it off. It takes longer than you would think though, or at least longer than I thought it would. :)

I have always been a one SAK man(that sounds dirty), and my old plastic Climber always did much more then I could ask of it. However, recently these alox SAK's have been catching my eye more and more. So much so that they're all I've been thinking about lately. I think I'm going to finaly have to see what all the fuss is about.

Do it!!! The alox ones are so much nicer in my oppinion. I've had a tinker in my work bag forever but never really carried it, the plastic scales just always felt a little cheap to me. The alox is fantastic though, ever since I got my first one I've been incredibly impressed with them.

Took it out of my SAK display case in '83 and carried it 20+ years in my left hand jean pocket...your results may vary.

Careful! They multiply, and fast! Most of these where acquired within the past month or two. The moonlight silver solider is my newest.

Yes .

Its hard to get the true color with artificial light , its a silvery grey color but the photos dont really recreate true life , its lighter than they depict .
Ill try taking some outside over the next few days , maybe natural light will help .
