I've been very interested in the L'il Temperance since it first came out. However, after handling it a few times, I just decided that I didn't like the angular configuration of the handle for my hands. Granted, it fits and locks into your hand like nobody's business, but I prefer slightly smoother and secure ergonomics. Boy did I get a welcomed surprise at Blade '04. While Mr. & Mrs. Nobody were viewing several models at the Spydie table, I was talking with the Mrs. about my feelings on the L'il Temp. Sal must have heard me and pulled out the model for the next generation of Temperance and I've got to tell you I about fell down on my knees to praise him right there. Whenever Spyderco gets this baby into production (don't harass poor Mr. Glesser because I think it will be a while), I will be the first in line to buy one of these. The model was like a L'il Temp that Sal had done a meltdown on. It felt less bulky yet was still incredibly secure feeling. I really can't wait to test one of these out. I can't thank Sal enough for his vision in the next generation of L'il Temperance. It's like he was reading my mind across the miles. ;)

Thanx Nobody. Appreicate. The design is a highly refined "Little Big Knive".

I'm pleased that our thinking is aligned. Designing knife models to please particular "preferences" in customers is often a tough chore. The Lil' Temperance is a personal favorite. The newest refinement reflects my thoughts about what could be improved on the first design.

It's still a ways down the road.

Thanks for the teaser, Nobody! The Lil' Temp is my personal favorite Spydie, so I will be very interested to see how Sal can possibly improve it.

My favorite Spydie as well. The current version is so well designed that I can't wait to see what the author (Mr. Glesser) has cooked up to improve it.

If I could add one humble suggestion - instead of having a 3.06" blade, perhaps it could be made with a just as fat 2.95" blade. For the .11 inches you get to have a knife that is below the 3" legal limit in some areas and is still just as nasty ;) . The ultimate travel-friendly defensive / utilitarian EDC.

Mmmh, I guess it depends from were you measure on the Lil'T, because I could just as well measure mine to 2.75 in. But your right, in the catalog it is listed as 3 1/16.

Sounds great! I also think loosing just a little in blade length would be great!

I love my Lil Temp - A tad more belly would also be great. There's still about 5mm room in the handle from the edge till the spacers.

measured heel to tip in a straight line, mine is 3 1/32".
measured along the curve of the edge, it is 3 1/16".
measured tip to handle, at the bottom, 3 5/32".

Hoever you measure it you can be caught out if they want to get you, in a sub 3" area.

the law in the UK says cutting edge, so I was toying with the idea of filing the choil a little bigger.

I agree that the sacrifice of a few 32ths would be worth thinking about, given the intent of the design.

I think Sal is still working out all the potential modifications so I wouldn't expect to hear from anyone on this until they're much closer to a manufacture date. The "model" I saw was very similar to a regular Temp but more rounded and softer shaped. The compression lock was more like the one on the paramilitary as well.

I'd suggest a color change from dark green to a faded denim color to make it even more disarming and innocuous. :D

Yeah... one of the things stopping me from picking up a Lil 'T is the color.

I know y'all are sick of me saying it... but the Electric Blue on the Y has got to be the biggest "What's that?" against chinos.

I've never had anyone ask me about a black-scaled knife in jeans or khakis, only green micarta, yellow micarta, shiny stuff... and I'd bet blue or green.

I'd be all good with a nice, subdued grey in any of my carry knives....

Now, I love bright royal blue. It's one of my favorite colors. However, I definitely would not like it as a color on a knife like the L'il Temp where I'm looking for low profile disguising a kick-tail knife.

Gray is nice and neutral. :) Out of my good natured heart Sal, you just say the word if you need someone to give the improvements some real world testing prior to release and I'll be there for you.... :D

Sal, do you have plans to make some cheaper plain g10 versions on this knife? I read in previous threads that the complex ergonomics on the handle requires manual touch up and makes the knife expensive. Also, will there be a lil'temperance with a titanium integral compression lock?

Will the future version be available with both the leaf and trailing point blade styles?

I'd be quite interested in seeing any photos of this prototype. I just bought a Lil' Temperance and I'm hard pressed to figure out what can be improved upon.

One idea though that hasn't been discussed in this thread - perhaps it would be helpful to give the knife a utilitarian - sounding name? Not something neutral, like Lil' Big Knive, but something that makes the knife sound like it is specifically designed as a utility knife.

Thank you Nobody, I'll keep that in mind. The piece we had at the show was an SLA (Stereo Lithogrphy Apparatus) model and really isn't strong enough for use.

Hi Lreed. The plan was for a formed CF version and an FRN version.

Hey Cds1, No photos yet, sorry, too soon. improvements would be lighter, more 3D forming and less expensive. The name thing is an interesting idea to ponder.
