I know I will probably be shot down for this but I want to take a different stance than most. I understand knives are addictive, just like Flashlights, or Guns. For me my addictive limits are 3. I tend to buy no more than 3 of a type of item before I find the one I stay with. My flashlight, bought three types and landed on Zebra SC600W IV Plus, my Gun, bought three types and landed on the Hk compact... My knife... ? ?? . Hence this post. I need your help. Benchmade custom 20Cv Mini crooked river and paramilitary 2 are my two knives.. I need a third and possibly your opinion on which of the three knives I should make my primary then.

Needs: EDC with option ability to use Tactical.

Mine is simple. DPx HEST F with my custom grind. Haven't found anything to beat it yet. That could change when the cold steel ad15 comes out, we shall see.

CRK without question or doubt. Quality, reputation and a history of awards that are unequalled by and head and shoulders above all the others along with warranty and spa service to match. Simplicity, convenience, ease and speed of owner disassembly and cleaning/service of the Sebenza 21 is unparalleled by competitors and you can opt for small or large models.

I have never been trained in knife tactical, so I can't really speak about that end... (no offense intended, I just really think the word is overused to mean too many things and has negative connotations in general)

If you mean SD, you'll want a fixed blade really, so look at a bradford 3.5 guardian in m390 for belt sheath carry. Or a carothers edc in 3v or something. Those 2 are imho the top of the small fixed 'production pile'. Or get a bf member smith to make you a fixed custom how you want it, ultimately this option gives you the best flexibility to get exactly what you imagine. So many great members make amazing fixed customs.

Flashlights are addictive? Buy a Surefire and be done with it. The hellfire for ultimate tactical .50cal mountable and burns like the sun. Other than that if you only get the one knife, it's a fix blade imo. I'm in love with my BM 162 at the moment. Anything sharp and pointy works for me though.

If you are truly only going to have three knives, one of them should be a fixed blade. If SD is really a concern for which knife you carry, once again, a fixed blade is what is needed. If is not legal for you to carry a FB, then just pick the best folder for the job.

I question if the two knives you already own are up to the task.

Just my opinion, nothing else.

If you're not going to talk about what research you've done already, not going to go into any depth about your preferences or requirements, have no intention to actually join the hobby, and you don't even have enough invested in this process to get even get Chris R's last name right, you might as well just pick a knife out of a hat.

I don't really have a 'grail' as far as knives go. Well, I do, but I already HAVE my Peter Bauchop Witch, and my SOG S-1, those were my only 'grail' knives. Well, OK, I must admit that if I found a Bauchop Alley Cat for a reasonable price, THAT one would make 3, tho I might have to sell a kidney. But I have quite a few other fixed blades.

Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, my Kershaw Shallot with ZDP-189 edge will return from a fluff-and-buff at the Kershaw warranty facility. And I have a Buck 110 in 5160 blade steel(as well as a 101). And my grandfather's green-bone Case trapper. That makes 3. But I have quite a few other folders.

I don't limit myself. I know what I like, and little of it is anything you can buy at even a decent sporting goods shop. And, consequently, I really don't buy a lot of knives, preferring to actually use the ones I do get. I don't mind buying used, if it's something I want. Except for my one Craig Steketee damascus art knife, an Enedino Deleon dagger, and an Ontario/Bagwell Fortress bowie(that makes 3), everything I own gets used occasionally. Even the Witch has gone to the field with me, I think Peter would appreciate the fact that not all of his knives that made it to North America are hanging on walls or under glass somewhere.

If you’re not looking for a fixed blade(though that is a good choice), I’d recommend a Spyderco Manix 2. It’s CBBL is like a more robust Axis lock. So if you like the Axis on your Crooked River, you’d like the CBBL on the Manix. It slices better than PM2 and there are a million and one options for handles and steels. I’d shoot for a CruWear myself, but I’m biased as hell. It also has the best ergonomics of any single knife I’ve owned and probably will ever own. It’s a dream machine.

IMHO, 3 knives won't even scratch the surface. The ones that try to be a "one size fits all" knives are never really great at anything.
Knives are tools. Use the right tool for the right job.
Different steels and styles for different jobs.

EDC and tactical are two totally different jobs, unless you are a cop or operator.

For Tactical, think like the pros.
Use the knife to keep the bad guy from taking your gun.
Knife fighting is for the movies.
HK USP Compact is a great sidearm.
Use that for defense. Use the blade as a retention aid.

For EDC, use a simple knife that you can use for ED tasks.
You can carry more than one knaff.
;)

For purely tactical use you want to look in to a fixed blade.

Check out Bradford Guardian 3 or 4 in M390, OR check out Winkler Knives. I own the Guardian 3 and 4 in M390, and I own several Winkler Knives and they are probably my best "small" EDC knives. Small being 3 to 5 inches in length.

If you are interested in what "tactical knife" use and knife attacks is all about then go to the Dog Brothers website and buy three videos: "DIE LESS OFTEN." There are many other people to train with but the Dog Brothers are very good.
