The one question...

I was under the impression if you didn't grow up before turning 49 you didn't have to............I have 32 days left to fight it. :D But really, I just want to help people and I'm doing that, so I guess I'll just keep on keeping on.;)

Well if the weather ever settles down where I can get out and move more I will be reaching my goal as a retired 66 year old that has never grown up.
That is if I can make it 'till March 1st at 10:10 a.m. which is my birth time and day.;) :D

I wanted to be a full time smith/knife maker. Injuries put the kabash on that though:( Oh well, when life gives you poop, make poop pies ~ or somethin like that:D

I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up...but I have already been a cowboy on a cow ranch...wasn't bad..but wasn't a lot of fun....hmm...anyone have any openings?

I think selling fertilizer would be more profitable than making poop pies in that scenario. ;)

You have no idea how pleased I am to read that!!

Thought it was just me:D

Second childhood? PFOOIE! Never left the first one:p

Kaz? Technically you are right. But fertilizer doesn't do anything for my artsy craftsy side ~ but making a pie? THAT is art my friend. Scarob beetles did it and the Egyptians held them in high esteem!

You know me dave. I'm a doctor.

And you--you are going to spend the next couple of years at my graduate school.

It'll be just like the first time around.

We can do our post doctoral studies at the remaining private institutions in Texas. We want to cover all our bases.

I'm 42 and if I ever grow up there are really only two jobs that I am qualified for; Millionaire Playboy or Emperor of the World.

I teach now, and I worked for the last five years as a writer and content developer for an educational software company. I have always wanted to write fiction, and I think that's what I'm going to do.

I'm a CPA, and I'm not sure how it happened. It was a product of fear about not being able to provide for my family, and taking opportunities to slowly build a career. I wish I would have been a doctor, I would have been happier helping people for a living. I would have been happier as a physical therapist, but I wasn't sure that my grades would let me get in at the time. I'm not miserable being an accountant, I just fell into it, and I wish I would have known to make more mindful decisions earlier in life.

If I have learned one thing to pass to my kids is to get as much of your education out of the way earlier instead of waiting. What do I want to do when I grow up? I want to retire in about 20 years or so, after my kids have moved out of the nest, and maybe start a martial arts dojo then, when I have the time to devote for it.

LionsRoar,

One of my teachers (actually the associate director of the school and one of its teachers) was a CPA. She finally couldn't ignore that part of herself that wanted to help people. She went back to school to become a massage therapist, then more school to become a nutritionist. She has 3 careers now: teacher/administrator, Nutritionist, and massage therapist. She makes less money and is extremely happy.

Just one story of one person's path. Not necessarily a good path for someone else, but I thought you might be interested to hear what another CPA did to follow her dreams.

that's too funny. I was a massage therapist at one point. I did it for years.
I like the stability of a regular job now, with insurance, for the kids' sake.
Thanks for the input though. I've thought about going back one more time later to be a Physician's Assistant.

PA is neat, but if you want to be a doctor, be a doctor. Don't settle. It'll hurt you in the long run. If you're like me, you probably enjoy the leadership and the ability to make calls the way you want--so go all the way.

This is your whole life--don't settle.

I have been asking myself this since high school. I turn 25 tomorrow. It is the question that I haven't been able to figure out and that bothers me on a daily basis.

So I have to ask yall... What do yall want to do when you grow up?
