Did you ever sell a gun and kick yourself for doing it? I know I have, way too many times. When I got divorced many years ago, I sold a bunch so I could buy my ex wife's share of the house. Three that really stick out in my mind are my 5" S&W Model 27 .357, my 2 1/2" S&W Model 19 .357, and my Browning High Power 9mm. Anyone else do something dumb like this?
Don't even get me started on knives, I sold off my Randall collection, and when I lost my job I sold off my Busse collection and my Pheasant Tail Sebenza.

I can claim stupidity on this count. I had a Gold Cup and a 22 conversion kit that I sold. Don't know what I was thinking at the time. It was about 20 years ago.

When I was younger I used to have a very large paper route. When I quit it was split into 7 sections. I had my brother and 2 friends helping. Needless to say after paying them I was making big money( for a kid). Ok so that's the backstory.

Anyway I was really into coin collecting. Obviously I got quite a few good coins collecting but I took it one step further. My mothers best friend worked in a bank and on a weekly basis she would save for me all the Franklin and standing Liberty halves and any Mercury dimes she would get, rolls of them. So all my profits went into this every week for a couple years. I had boxes of silver.

My ex wife somehow talked me into selling my entire collection in one of the 1980 silver booms.. I still have nightmares about it..!

Sorry no guns were involved..:D

..

That 2.5" Model 19 is high on my list of "One of these Days".

It's not the ones I've sold that haunt me, as they were all sold to fund the purchase of "The Next One". So I don't regret those. And I've never "had" to sell one.

The ones that keep me up at night are the ones I didn't buy. Throughout my many college years I worked running pawn shops. (and no, it's nothing like the reality show pawn shops on tv). The store policies were that employees couldn't buy anything without the owners direct approval. And if an employee wanted something it must be worth it for some reason, so the price was usually higher than I could sell it to a decent, repeat customer.

Most of the guns I sold have long since been forgotten, but a few still stalk my memory. The 20ga Browning Auto-5 that would have been a perfect companion to the Light12 my Papaw gave me for my 12th birthday. There was a Colt Anaconda, a Winchester 70, a Brownign Superposed, a Fox SxS, a pair of Ruger .32Mag, a S&W K22, a Saur 202... You get the idea.

If only I had been a little less "by the book" and spent a little less of my paycheck on rent/bills and wooing my wife.

There have been more than I care to remember. The two that stand out most are a 73 Winchester in 38-40 and a drilling 16x16 over 9.3x74r. The finish on the Winchester was rough but it shot really well. I traded it for a nicer looking lever gun that I could never get to shoot. There have been countless ones I regret not buying. The most recent one was at a 4-day flea market. We usually spend two days looking and within 20 minutes of the first day I passed up a Savage Anschutz. It was on a table with a bunch of low end older guns on the outskirts of the flea market. I told my wife I would come back later and make the guy an offer. I went back several hours later and he told me it was the only gun he had sold that day.

All mine were sold because of no other way to make money. I always thought there would be time to replace them but it's too late now.

1-The Parker Trojan that I used to turkey hunt with.
2-The factory engraved Remington Model 10 pump that would now be over 100 years old.
3-The artillery Luger that I used to shoot jack rabbits with.
4-Mint Browning Nomad .22 pistol that shot so well and had bluing deeper than the sea.
5-Browning original Belgian T-bolt deluxe (the squirrels most feared rifle in Fulton County, IL).
6-1955 Sunbeam S8 motorcycle that I spent the summer of 1973 pushing all thru Tinley Park

I could go on.... but it hurts.

My Ruger mini 14. I really miss that rifle.

I had a few Colt revolvers that I kick myself for letting go.

The one I really get mad at myself about is the 1954 Colt Commander I had. Got good money for it, but never should have let it go.

I remember buying a Remington 16 gauge from you a long time ago, can't remember the model, maybe 30 or 31? Lightweight with a full choke? I can't believe you didn't mention your Remington 788 in 6mm.

Mmmmm, a 788 in 6mm would be sweet. I have one in 22-250 and it is amazing.

When I was a kid a friend of my dad's loaned me a Winchester model 12 in 16 gauge to hunt doves. He told my dad that I could keep it if I wanted it. My dad said no.
Many years later I tried to buy it but he had given it to someone else. :(

I had a 788 in 6mm, but some of my other favorites were a Remington Model 700 in .308, a Ruger Number 1 in 6mm and a Remington Mohawk 600 in .243.

I gave my ex a Colt Diamondback in .38 when we split, really regret that one.
Had a Browning HP I wish I still had.

The only gun I ever sold that I truly wish I had kept, and I have not sold very many, was the Ruger GP100 with Goncalo Alves grip inserts.

That was a sweet shooting, well made, great looking handgun. I sold it in the early 90's for $250 if I remember correctly.

As a side topic, was out shooting yesterday and my AR pistol turned itself into a single shot. Upon inspection, one of the gas sealing rings on the bolt was broken.....never seen that happen before.

Have 12 new ones from RRA on the way, scheduled for Wednesday delivery. The piece had 500 rounds through it when the ring broke. I am going to assume it ran dry and broke due to the relatively close clearances from being so new. The BCG is a full-auto group from PSA.

I did have a Colt AR 15 back in the late 70's / early 80's. Think I paid either $300 or $400 for it new.(can't remember, need to dig through my receipts)

Having to shoot M16s in the MC has ruined me on the platform.
I want an AK!

I still want an HK-91. That was the first rifle that really got my juices flowing.

Oh boy yeah.
A bit pricy hence the want vs the have or had.

Exactly. When the price was in my range, something else was always more important.
I'm an idiot.
