The One That Got Away

If I had a $10.00 bill for every Gun or Knife that I have ever owned I swear I would be a Millionaire today and I say that in all honesty ~~ a true dang
million whoppers !! I even had a 10" Barrel German Mauser Pistol with only 12 ever made and this one was new in the box in 45 cal. and i paid $100 for it from an old fellow in Fl. (around90 Yrs. old or so) and he told me not to try and jew him down as he would not take less and I asked him if I could use his phone ( and he said sure) I just did not tell him who I was calling.) and I called the Gun Shop where I bought and traded a"few" things over the years and he asked me where I was at.!! Yeah you bet I did ~~ lol -- anyway he told me was worth about a $1,000 so I bought the old Gun from the old man and thanked him very much ~~ after I told him the Gun was worth more than he was asking and he said his price was firm.!
Hey ~~ I tried to leave him an out.! Took the Luger down to Hollywood,Fl. to a Gun Shop that I knew collected Luger's and Al saw me and the pkg. I was carrying and waved me on telling me his office.! Long story short he offered me $10,000 and I took it .!!*** Went to a Gun Show the next weekend in Punta Gorda,Fl. and right to the left when you went in was a man who was a serious German Gun Collector.! Told him what I had done and he was sick as he only had 5 more Guns to collect and that one was one of them and I could literally named my price for that Pistol.! Enough to make a grown man cry after he told me what I had let go of.!!** Win some lose some and that was one I wish I had of checked around on more.! ***

I remember buying a Remington 16 gauge from you a long time ago, can't remember the model, maybe 30 or 31? Lightweight with a full choke? I can't believe you didn't mention your Remington 788 in 6mm.

That Remington shotgun was a model 31L Lightweight, and I am trying to replace it! I have bid on nearly every one that has come up on Gunbroker in the past 3 years, 12 and 16 gauges, but someone always wants it more than me! That was a heck of a cornfield pheasant gun. The 788 and I had a funny relationship, tho it was the most accurate rifle I had ever owned, and to this day still would be , I positively hated the detachable magazine with a fervor that increased with time until finally it had to go!

The only problem that I have with my 788 is that it ejects straight into the scope knob and the ejected round drops right back into the bolt. I wish I knew how to fix that.

If you rotate the scope 9o degrees counter-clockwise the turret cap will be out of the way. It requires a little extra thought when sighting in, but it gets the caps out of the ejection path.

That's exactly what I've always done but I hate that.

Mine was a 6" S&W 629 Classic Hunter, non-fluted cylinder. Got in GA while at Infantry school before getting stationed in Alaska. Carried it all over the State while hunting and fishing. My buddy used it to finish off a Moose. Had little use for it while in MD. With .44 specials it was one of the best shooting handguns I've ever owned.

This thread got me thinking King and I had a GEC single blade lockback knife, been missing that one

Think i traded it to someone here so fyi if there looking to trade it let me know ;)

Three years ago, I sold a NIB 1961 vintage snub nose Python for $1400 and NIB 4" nickel Python for $1200.

It sucks being stupid.
