The one that got away..

I thought I had several answers for this thread, but the more I think about it, no, there are none that I truly regret not buying when I had the opportunity.

Some candidates that at one time I wanted, let pass by, at one time regretted, but in full retrospect don't regret now:
  • GEC Northfield 06 Pemberton - passed on it because at the time I thought $90 was too much for a beefier version of a Peanut.
  • GEC 48 single blade SS with Elk - I ended up getting a 2-blade in amber bone instead and I'm happy with that one, but who knew SS would become such a rare thing from GEC?
  • GEC 12 Toothpick in second cut stag that sat on the CK web site for ages unsold, since I am a fan of the 12 pattern and it was a good looking knife at a good price. However, I have three 12s and only carry one of them, so it would just end up another knife in a tube on the shelf.
I got lucky in that some things that I had let get away came back around and I had another chance. An example is a Case Trapper with a Wharncliffe secondary. When I first got into pocket knives, there were still a number of these available from a run Case had done in 2007-2008 or so, but I didn't get one at the time. As luck would have it, a couple of years ago one popped up here on the Exchange for a good price and I snagged it. I think that may have been my last Case knife purchase, in fact.

So yes, there were a few here and there that I let get away, but nothing really worth shedding a tear over today.

I only have one that immediately comes to mind. The Camillus-manufactured A.G. Russell Premium Scout with 154CM blade and micarta covers. My father-in-law and I oooh'd and ahhhh'd over a picture of this knife for months, both in the catalog and on the website. I have no idea why we never pulled the trigger. It might have ended my knife-buying obsession many, many years ago.

I have one now, but it's not the best example. Pull on the main blade is a bit weak for my liking. I'd really, really like to come up with a more representative sample.

I had a Case 45 pattern scout with yellow Delrin scales that a member on the Case forum talked me out of. He had to have it to complete his collection. It's been a couple years and I still haven't been able to replace it. Then to add insult to injury the guy that had the knife just gifted it to another member.

I missed some brand new #77 Barlow months ago, including african blackwood, samber stag and some bones.Try to forget them……
And just now I asked myself whether I regret not taking a #48 African Blackwood improved trapper,it might be a little slim for me.

And I still remember there are several 77 barlows(2014&2015) available on Mile' s website, unfortunately I wasn't fond of traditional slipjoints at that time.

See my signature...

Nothing special or unique, I just really wish I got one when I had the chance.
