The One That Got Away

None of ‘em got away. It simply takes a little time and a little/lot of money. 🙃

I had a Chris Reeve Sikayo, the chef knife. I sold it due to hard financial times in my life. I wish I would have just lived in poverty for a bit and kept it. The most regrettable sell in my life.

Missed out on a reverse S Spyderco Meerkat, waffled on an S90V Yojumbo. A dual bladed custom mother of pearl handled Civilian... Couple of Moomin SAKs that were going fast at Dan Flashes..

Didn't even try with GEC until the most recent forum knife, should get it tomorrow!

You're gonna love the forum GEC, lock is a little stiff, but should wear in nicely.

This is a story of the one that didn’t get away but if it did…

A WC LG Talos was listed for $600 on eBay. I hate buying on eBay and it was more than I wanted to spend. But with my lack of willpower I offered $500, he came back at $550. Of course I wasn’t going to lose it over $50 so I jumped on it. After I made the purchase I found out there was only 25 of them ever made. Once I learned this I would have gladly paid the $600 and would never had watched it for as long as I did. With only 25 of em out there I thank god every time I put it in my pocket that I was fortunate enough to get it. And if I hadn’t, and knowing what I know now I’d still be kicking myself in the ass!!

So when the grails are available jump!

I almost bought a one off Les George topo VECP for a good price. It got bought before I could decide.

I do not if I feel now like any got away, mainly because my likes and desires have changed over the years. I feel more like I made some mistakes where I wish I had bought a different version than the one I liked at the time. Example many years ago, early in my collection, I bought a Microtech fullsize manual Socom and a small, I got the tanto with a combo blade in the full size and a drop point in the small. Still have the small even though I regret buying the combo blade, the tanto was sold because I learned, I really do not like regular tanto blades. If it had been just a straight drop point I would never have sold it.

When those limited edition Benchmade Mini Crooked River knives came out, with the hunting themes etched onto the blades, the timing for me was bad. I had just dropped a lot of cash on some other knives.
Still looking for those Crooked Rivers?

Still looking for those Crooked Rivers?
I was definitely feeling a moment of weakness when those came out, but I've since tightened things up, in terms of sticking to "The List" and trying to keep my purchases down to around a dozen or so knives this year and am certainly not already over that number.
