my grandpas camillus #26 2 blade hunter. I was given this knife when i was about 14 or 15 years old, my dad not being a knife guy had most of my grandpas pocket knives and out of the lot he gave me this:eek:
Imagine a kid who previously had a cheap SAK, then one day having this monster bestowed upon him, i felt like i was holding a small folding short sword:D and it had a sheath too! i carried and used and misused and lost and found it for years all through highschool. Not really a hunting type but i spent alot of time outdoors and roaming through the woods, good times.
fast forward 20+ years and i was cleaning my drawer (i get 1 just 1) in our dresser and i pulled it out and thought about it and how it had been around all these years and hey i can research it on the net... The fever was starting...had no idea how to even read the tang stamp...but i was diligent and eventually came stumbling in here and the rest is history... And history is what i love the most about blade forums, a collection of knowledge, opinions and experience. pretty cool:thumbup:
At least for me it started with camillus and hopefully will always find its way back to them.
cheers

p.s. my soddie jr is thrown in to show how damn big the 26 is:thumbup:

you my friend are to be commended for your excellent and informative sites:thumbup: i have visited the camillus one many times...
impressive to say the least.
I'm going to try to do what i can to post picts and deep reflective thoughts:D
about my beloved camillus knives may not revitalize the camillus forum but at least it will give me the chance to show off and hopefully some good will come of it. Im not a wealth of knowledge but i'm big on nostalgia:D
cheers

My #26 is the most cherished of my camillus knives. I got bit by the knife bug early as a child and I had a #26. Went off to university and my small but irreplacable collection of camillus, schrade and imperial folders and fixed blades was gone. A few years ago I found one at a local gunshop that is known for it's impressive stock of knives. I of course bought it to replace the one I lost. I was fourtunate that camillus knives have always been present in my life.

nice to hear from a fellow camillus guy... of all the brands camillus is the one thats first on my list when i'm treasure hunting... always got my eyes peeled
The prices on ebay seem to be settling down a little, some of them were very high the last 5-6 months... You should post some pictures in the camillus forum, unfortunately it doesnt get the traffic it used too so every story, post and pict is appreciated especially by camillus fans:thumbup:
cheers

Here are some images of my #26 and a Texas Rangers themed Jumbo trapper also a camillus. I have always loved large folding hunters. If I could I would have my #26 on my belt everyday but since I work in an office setting this could be off putting.

Growing up the Camillus brand knives were very common. If some one was carrying a slip joint knife it was more than likely a schrade, imperial or a camillus. Handling this knife is like taking a mini-vacation of sorts because it reminds me of campouts, hunting trips and starry nights around a fire.

nice #26 i too have a soft spot for the huge slippies :D NIce trapper BTW my son is always drawn to the trappers when we are out looking:D
Camillus will be sorely missed by those of us in the know:(
Thanks for posting the pictures.
Hey maybe you could get a custom sheath, so it could ride horizontal and not be so noticible, that way ya can carry it more often:thumbup:
cheers
