I voted for 1, 2 and 3.
IMHO the correct answer is: 'it depends…’ :D
There are some situations which are better faced with a multitude of blades, and each blade can be paired with the task it is optimally suited for.
There also knives or patterns, which feel wrong with a different number of blades.
For me an Opinel or a sodbuster must be single bladed.
A stockman fels wrong if it has four or more blades
Some jack knives have to be two bladed. And so it goes on…
As I think about it, I like congress knives too. 4 blades are handy. Or even 6...

A single blade was sufficient for me for over 36 years. Of course, YMMV!

I voted two blade and that's my feeling. But, being somewhat of a rebel even to my own "establishment", I find I carry a single blade often. The two blade jacks like the GEC 66 are my idea of ideal. My favorite EDC is a Case mini copperhead, with two blades. I only use the main blade most of the time, but the pen blade on it does some tasks better.

I have always liked 3 blades, my favorite style is a medium stockman, I usually keep the spey blade as a "trash" blade as my Grandfather used to call it, I don't even sharpen it, because sometimes you need to cut somethings that would be hard on a blade.

It really does depend. Two of my favorite patterns are the Stockman and the 3 blade Conductor. But my personal favorite knife happens to be a single blade. Tough question but as I sit here I have 8 3 bladed knives within reach. So - 3. ;)

The knives I carry most are one or two blade. The ones I actually use most tend to have two. But the favorite knife I own has four, a George Wostenholm Senator. I voted two because I spend 50+hours a week with a two blade in my pocket or when needed my hand. I know all this is as clear as mud.

I mostly carry three blades, but do prefer four blades: primary wharncliffe or Clip, with secondaries of smaller size- Spey, wharncliffe/sheepsfoot with clip main, clip with wharncliffe main, and has to be a punch these days. A nice Wostenholm fits the bill for now, with sheepsfoot main, long clip, Spey and punch.

I voted 1 or 2.
I like the idea of having extra blades, and the extra
bulk/weight doesn't bother me. However, it seems like
most every knife I've ever held with more than 2
blades has one of a few main issues that bug me to
no end. In no certain order:

#1) All of the blades have to have their own nail
nick which means they all stick up in a different
place and create hotspots. I use my knives a lot
so ergonomics are important to me.

#2) I really hate how on most multi-bladed knives
the maker will put 2 blades on one spring
and to make them fit, they get ground to one side
or the other instead of straight. I know it doesn't really
effect how well the knife cuts, but I don't like it.

#3) Often I'll find on a multi-bladed knife that
I may really like the shape of one or two blades,
but really dislike another. If I don't like and want to
use all of the blades, for some reason that sticks
in my mind in a nagging kind of way.

For these reasons, the vast majority of my folders,
aside from my SAKS and Multi-tools, are single
blade. With a few 2 bladed jacks mixed in.
Really, I can do everything I need to do, and
more, easily with just one or two blades.
I only carry a half dozen at a time because
it's so hard to choose one. :D lol

voted one. its like my bud from work once said 'if i cant cut something with one blade i dont see where more will help'
ymmv

My vote goes for two blades for EDC carrying (at least two knife blades - not the tools on an SAK)

Ideal for really ever task. BUT: I also like carrying one bladed knives, as well as three bladed knives. But the ones I carry the most have two blades.

2 blades mostly, but 3 blades if one is a punch.(I've been obsessed with punch blades lately )

Wow, there are some fine jacks on display in this thread, but that deep blue case wharnie takes the cake in my book!!

At the moment I am carrying single bladed knives. I like a big knife on my belt or in my hip pocket and a nice knife to show off somewhere on me. The only thing that has remained constant for the past couple of years is the leatherman in my left back pocket. The pliers get a lot of use along with the screwdrivers. I use the blade where I wouldn't use my good knives. I always have at least one good single blade knife though.

I chose the single blade. I like my multi blade knives to be SAKs for the most part, and my traditional folders tend to be single blade knives. I do like two blade jacks as well, but I seem to only need one blade for the most part, and the slim profile of the single blade traditional folders feel best in my pocket.

Interesting results so far... A strong lead for the 2-blade advocates and 80% agree on either ONE or TWO blades.

None of mine are more than 2 blades.

ummm....1>desirable number<4

(more than one, less than 4)

Lately it's been two, Peanut, jacks, half Congress, Muskrat have been in my pockets. Last month I might have said three (stockman) or four (Congress). I'm just glad we have such a great number of choices.

Ask again next month and I might change my mind :D

I used to think 3 was optimum... but as I look over my collection, I have more 2 blade knives than anything else - so it seems I favor that.

Most of my pocket knives are some form of stockman or jack; if I was down to only one I would take a 4" stockman. OH
