Has anybody ever used an Original Handle Saver? I came across them in an Ace Hardware. It is basically just a rubber collar that is designed to protect from the handle from over-strikes. It seems like a pretty decent idea.

My dad had one on an axe of his for a while. Seemed to work pretty okay. :)

Thanks guys. I may have to pick one up to try. Normally, I would just wrap the handle in tape or paracord, but I like how this can be removed easily and moved between axes. It didn't seem too heavy in the package, but I wonder if it would change the way a small axe feels.

My biggest problem with it was that it was a little bulky. Other than that I couldn't complain much. :)

I split a lot of wood at my house and various friends come over and help - these work great and save many a handle - especially when i am teaching a young guy that has no experience;

but even guys with lots of experience under their belt still bang a handle on a log every now and then - with a full size axe that will bust a handle for sure

whenever i see them in a store i grab at least one

Peace --- Eric

Years ago a laborer borrowed my doublejack. After he splintered part of the handle against a steel stake I took my beater away from him. After work I bought a handle savor. It stayed on that hammer for years. So did the original handle.
