The "Other" Board?

What you mean BritishBlades? ;)

re: KF-I've tried reg'ing there numerous times and it has never worked. Now I can't be bothered any more as I lurk here lots.

I started off at knifeforums because they were ok iwht hotmail addresses. Started comming over here and foudn it much easier to navigate with the screen reading software I use. Don't know if it was intentional or not but BF is extremely friendly to blind computer users. KF and SDF are doable but its a serious pain in the butt, just too much stuff on the page that has to be waded thru to get to the posts.

So BF gets the ADA award for most accessible knife discussion forum;-)>

I post in a few of the differant forums. I like them all for differant reasons. If you look at the makers area of the differant forums you'll usually get a good fell what the rest of the forums will be like. All of them are great in differant ways.

Which always kinda struck me like the States not acknowledging the presence of Canada or vice-versa......

Ya, except it's more like, "if we don't mention them, maybe there won't be a giant inter-forum flamewar". The theory seems to be working reasonably well, in this case.

Canada?

Whats that? :p

KF is a fine forum. It is true that the software is slow and that things can get a little boring at times, but heck, that even happens here every once in awhile. I only visit KF every week or two so lots has usually happened between visits.

As far as the "other place/forum" is concerned; that forum Usually Should Not be mentioned by name here. Too many cross forum flame wars have happened between the two forums. It is at the request of the other place that we do not mention them here, and vice versa.

This is the first I've heard of any other knife forums. I've only been a knut for about a year or so, though. I've known about CandlePowerForums and most of the gun forums I like.

Would anyone be able to enlighten me about the differences or cultures of the other forums? I'm looking for understanding, not trying to start something. PM is OK if this is a contentious subject. I visited one, but you have to register before even getting a look at the site, and I'm disinclined to do that.

Thanks.

Every forum, regardless of subject matter, develops a "culture". There will be any number of people who like that culture and any number of peple who dislike it. The culture is not necessarily "right" or "wrong", just different and you need to experience it to decide if you like it. People might be able to describe their take on a particular culture but I think it's one of those things where you really have to see for yourself. I like BF because it seems to be able to successfully, (most of the time), mix very serious stuff with totally off the wall nonsense. Others might not see it like that. It really is a case of suck it and see. Go register, use a throw away email address if you like, look around and decide for yourself, it's the only way IMHO.

KF is slower at times and a bit odd with search features, but I like it plenty. The Bark River Forum is VERY active and I enjoy the people tremendously there. The general forum is not as active as this one though...

I started out on this forum, then found KF, and read both. These days I tend to spend more time at KF, but a lot of that is due to the Bark River forum over there. I deal a lot of Bark River knives. It's interesting that this forum and KF both have a lot of good info on knives, but also seem to have a different orientation. KF seems to be less concerned with the up-to-the-minute lastest supersteel or tactical knife than this forum is. I learned about Swamp Rat from this place, and Barkies from KF. Both have some very knowledgable people on them.

How did these flamewars erupt? was it because of different knifebrands ( my knife is better then yours, blablabla) or was it more personal? And did you really made an agreement that we can not say USN on this forum?

You should then post a disclaimer first , because i was not aware that it was agreed upon not to refer to the USN forum!

Without a disclaimer someone can enter this forum and erupt a flamewar by saying "what do you think about the USN forum?"

Wow ever knew it was that sensitive!

So when i go to the "other " forum i can not say Bladeforums either?

Hmmm

thats correct.........

So "they" get the side of the playground with the swings and junglegym and "we" get the sandbox and slide.

Pablo cannot protect you over there.

There is also Microholics if you're into Microtech and Badlands if you're into Strider. BFC definitely has the most traffic and the most turnaround. Some of the forums may not have a message or new topic posted for a week, it seems like. The ones I'm a member of are all great resources, so I'm happy that so many choices exist.
